May the Furs Be With You: Star Wars Used To Promote Pet Adoption

Over the past few years, animal shelters have been getting really creative with pet adoption promotions, especially in Canada.

Earlier this year, I wrote about a Canadian campaign to increase cat adoption by hawking them like used cars, and now the Canadians are tapping into the latest Star Wars craze to move cats and dogs into new homes with their May the Furs Be With You adoption campaign.

The Ottawa Humane Society enlisted the help of the 501st Capital City Garrison, a chapter of the international, all-volunteer, Star Wars costuming organization by asking them to don their best costumes and pose with homeless pets. The result? Some awesomely odd photos of Storm Troopers, Jawas, Darth Vadar and other oddball intergalactic characters gently holding puppies, bunnies, cats and guinea pigs.

Think a Weequay Skiff cannot get cuddly with a bunny? Think again. Photographer, Rohit Saxena captured some great images of even the most dastardly villains of the galaxy looking like softies.
