Recipe: Creamy Black Beans With Cilantro

A bowl of creamy black beans is not only nurturing during the cold months, but it also tastes rich. We add cilantro and sour cream to balance out the intensity. Enjoy!

3 cups black beans, dried
Water as needed
2 teaspoons sea salt
1 teaspoon granulated onion
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
2 teaspoons cumin, ground
3 tablespoons butter of choice
2 tablespoons jalapenos (in jar)
2-4 tablespoons sour cream

  • Soak beans overnight, then drain water and add fresh water covering 2 inches above the beans. Heat to boiling and lower to a simmer.
  • Cook uncovered, adding water as needed.
  • Add cumin, granulated onion and garlic.
  • Simmer for 3 hours or so or until beans are tender. After 1 1/2 to 2 hours, add butter (helps to soften the beans and makes broth creamier.)
  • Once the beans are soft, add salt and jalapenos.
  • Remove from heat, add sour cream and cilantro or dollop individual bowls and garnish with cilantro.

Serves: 4-6 people

Total cooking time: 2-3 hours
