This is a wonderful idea. I know that many victims are afraid to leave for many reasons but the family pet is definitely one of the big reasons. I too think all women's shelters should have a partner like this.

All women's refuges should have partnered shelters for their animals. We all know that abusive people also abuse animals.

This is such a breath of fresh air, thanks to all for implementing this. As a victim of domestic abuse for many years, I cannot think of a better way to cheer a person up, or offer an animal in need companionship and shelter. It is win, win, win. I also think that there could be more programs for cats offered as companions and pets for inmates at prisons. Having experienced first hand the benefits for not only the inmates and pets, but especially for the overall well being of the institution, and reduced costs associated with violent offenders who are given the privelege to have and be responsible for a cat in their cell, the benefits to all do not need to be explained. Let's all treat all animals with the respect and dignity that they all deserve, but let us also take advantage of the healing properties for humans of caring for a pet that needs and deserves care and food.

I cannot think of anything that would make a person who is victim of domestic abuse and violence any happier than a pet that loves them for who they are.
