Walking is the best exercise for beginners. Itís simple and you can do it consistently without experiencing fatigue or sore muscles. And what better way to start walking than to take on a walking challenge?

This walking challenge will build discipline that will help you stay in shape for the rest of your life. I chose to track progression with minutes instead of steps since some folks may not have a pedometer.

What to do after the challenge

You will definitely be in better shape after 30 days, but that shouldnít be the end of your journey. Start a new routine after the challenge. Now, the workout you choose will depend on your goals.

If you want to lose weight, start strength training. Do bodyweight exercises 3-4 days a week and walk for 30-45 minutes at least 5 times a week.

If you want to increase muscle mass, walk for 15 minutes every day and do strength training 4-5 times a week.

If your goal is to maintain current weight, walk every day and do bodyweight exercises to prevent loss of muscle. Research shows that combining cardio and strength training is the best way to lose weight and keep it off.

Alternatively, you can take on a new workout challenge. The jumping jacks challenge will increase muscle mass and build cardiovascular endurance.

Most importantly, choose a routine you can stick to long term. Start with a simple routine and make it challenging as you gain strength.
