Top 5 Reasons to Drink More Water

By Rachel Venokur-Clark, Eat. Drink. Better

Water is essential. Your body is made up of over 70% water; making water the single most important nutrient, apart from oxygen. Water not only re-hydrates your body, but it moves vital nutrients though out your body, removes waste from your system, aids in digestion and can even help you to lose weight.

Itís ideal to drink at least 8 glasses of water though out the day to ensure you are getting all of the amazing benefits water has to offer. Donít wait until your body tells you are thirsty, by that point you are already dehydrated and may be feeling false hunger pangs. Our brains canít decipher the difference between being thirsty and being hungry. The stomach growl you experience at 3PM may actually be your body telling you that you have not had enough water today.

Headaches, poor concentration, fatigue, constipation and dry skin are signals that you are not drinking enough water. Your body may also retain water, holding on to the small supply it is getting, if you do not give it enough water. When you begin to drink more water daily, these symptoms should begin to alleviate.

The Wonders of Water:

1. Aids in digestion and assimilation and absorption of nutrients. Without enough water you will not get the full benefits of all those healthy nutrients you are eating.

2. Assists in the excretion of waste and toxins from your kidneys and bowels. Without water, toxins can build up in your system, hindering the function of the kidneys and bowels and causes you to feel sluggish or even sick.

3. Allows you to not drink your calories. Drinking ample water leaves less room for the coffee, soda and other calorie rich drinks you may consume. Crowd out the sugary drinks by filling up on the calorie free benefits of water.

4. Gives your brain a boost. Without water, your brain may feel foggy and sluggish.

5. Keeps you young! Drinking water is the best medicine to ward off wrinkles and to keep your skin looking young and dewy. Water is also a natural lubricant for your joints and tissues, keeping your body supple.

Bored with plain water? Try squeezing Ĺ a lemon, orange or lime into your glass. You can even try a few slices of cucumber or throw some fresh berries into your water for some natural added flavor. Be cautious of the ďenhancedĒ water drinks on the market. Some of them are filled with high fructose corn syrup, sugar or 100 calories a bottle. Buy an eco-friendly reusable bottle and a water filter system, like Britta, to help save the earth while you get your drink on.

I drink lots of liquid including water, juice and milk to keep my skin supple and hydrated. Did you also know that water also does wonders to reduce the chronic pain of back and shoulders using hydrotherapy?

I mentioned the uses of hydrotherapy and hot tubs in my first post. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks!

For the magical truth about water, which is a complex, living entity that provides life and nourishement (but only when it's alive and filled with vitality!), please, please read the amazing books about the work of Viktor Schauberger ('Living Water' and 'Living Energies'). His books will open your eyes to the true nature of water, and helps us be the best guardians for this amazing substance.

For water to be healthy, it must be purified and energised, otherwise it is actually toxic. Tap water with chlorine compromises your immune system, and plastic bottled water is toxic with plastic leaching into the water! Invest in a good quality water purifier, an ioniser and energiser, which brings water back to it's natural life force... just as nature intended!
