Wolf and Donkey: a Lifesaving Friendship (Photos)

Talk about a modern-day fable! In 2007, in the village of Patok, Albania, a wolf had been captured from the mountains and was being held in a cage. A villager put a donkey in the cage with the wolf, intending that the donkey should become a live meal… but that didn’t happen.

Instead, the wolf and the donkey became close companions, refusing to harm each other and cohabitating peacefully in the cage. After a flurry of media attention (including a successful petition from Care2), the Albanian government intervened, and the wolf was returned to the wild. The donkey was allowed to live out its life in a comfortable open pastureóand the wolf still passes by sometimes to see him!

This is an older story, but it still touches us. We hope it brightens your day, too!

Can we start a petition to get the person who caught, caged and kept the wolf, and the person who put the donkey in the cage to be shamed. Well, shames a good word for what I would pay to see...

How can anyone be so despicably cruel? Caging a wild wolf is inconceivably wrong. But to then put a donkey, an animal that has always laboured excessively for mankind, has served humans well, beyond what humans have ever done for donkeys.. to sacrifice this donkey intending to watch ? That horrifies me. I cant get past that! Those poor animals. Very lucky for the donkey. Rare that there is an outcome that is not horrific

If the human are the most intelligent, they should be lifesaving instead of life-threatening

I love this story! So glad that it had a happy ending for both the wolf and the donkey!

Another example where the animals behave better than the people. Glad there was a happy ending.
