If you've never had a pit bull, or know nothing about pit bulls other than what the media tells you, you'd probably think they were vicious beasts who don't deserve a home or even love.

I forget the scientific terminology, but the fact is some breeds of dogs are much more prone to attacks than other dogs. Pit bulls are one of these breeds. Their genetic makeup should discount them from being a 'safe' dog to own especially if you have children or often just walk the dog in a public park.
I have not signed.

to respond to your comment Andrew H NO dog is more prone to attack it is the OWNER, NOT the dog that is responsible for the behaviour , there is no such thing as a "safe dog" there are only responsible "SAFE HUMANS" who train and care for their animals and the majority of Pit Bull owners are just that . please dont judge the breed by appearance or media hype

Very well written.I would say I love dogs since I was a baby, in my house its been always a dog, and of course being part of the family, our first dog I was so little I dont remember but when I was 8 my mom found a dog at the round and she took him home with us to give him a second change in life, he died 4 years ago from a illness after having an amazing and long life of 14 years.Thanks.

Jacquie Lamont, in response to your response. Pit Bull Terriers and some other breeds ARE more prone to attacks. The facts are that there are several differences in the brain chemistry in these animals such as RAS and L-tyrosine - enhanced through breeding for fighting - that make the dog 'want' to attack more often. They also make the dog almost unable to feel pain during attacks which has often been noted when the attacking dog has been hit to try to get it off another dog/child. They have been seen to be injured and bleed badly and still not let go. Of course, if the dog is badly treated this will make it worse. That is obvious so please don't patronise me by making such obvious statements.

Noted and signed, thanks Charles, I know for a fact these dogs are well natured as my son has one and she's great, she nose kisses my cats. Too many people have given these dogs the s**ty end of the stick, but it is the abusive owners that should get a swift kick up the a**.

It is such a pity that these dogs are often the victims of brutalization by wicked, stupid, callous humans.

The temperament of a dog is quite often down to how the 'owner' trains it. The fact that Pitbulls have been labelled as 'dangerous' attracts the kind of people who are looking for a dog to be just that and they condition the dog to live up to that label. It's normally the 'owners' who are dangerous. Let's outlaw them.

I gladly signed, because I don't think the breed is the problem. All dogs may sometimes present problems, but the pit bulls I have known have been gentle and intelligent creatures. Thanks Cher.
