The Department of Environment and Heritage also under the banner of Wildlife Recue has agreed to CULL Corellas in Maylands, WA. The DEH Zoologist Mr. Peter Mawson states "the introduced corellas were causing a range of problems throughout Perth."

Culling is just another word for the murder of a many animals. It is not only wrong but it is disgusting how they are doing it. they are just more people who do not want to see that it si the humans who have move into other beings' habitat and not the othereway around.

From what I can understand these birds were introduced to this area by the human race. How typical of the human race to now want to cull because the birds are a PROBLEM. The only PROBLEM IS THE HUMAN RACE they take the wild lifes habitat they hunt and shoot wild life almost to extinction ,it is all disgracefull and immoral, murdering animals and that is what it is, is just abhorent. If all wild life was left alone they would manage very well, when the human race get involved its turns everything on its head, it unbalances nature. The wild life do a better job of looking after themselves than the human race do.

Nothing can justify such barbarity. In fact nothing can justify the sacrifice of any animal. What a stupid way to solve a problem. It is not easy to control the reproduction of these birds? Overcrowding in some countries is not a problem as well? Because of this we will kill people indiscriminately? How stupid are people in this world.

I suggest they leave the birds alone and they will do their own culling or have less offspring. I couldn't believe that statement coming from a zoologist. I guess we don't think the same at all.

I find it quite amusing how so many people can pass sentence on those who have the horrible job of trying to fix a problem caused by stupid people. It is very obvious to me that NONE of you actually live in the area where the damage these birds are doing. It is all very well to judge others but if it was YOUR stuff these birds were destroying, YOU would be asking the Council/zoological people to be doing something about it. I am fortunate that I have nothing for the birds to destroy at this time. What I do see is the birds in large mobs, damaging the TV antennae of people who are pensioners and have no extra funds to get the repairs done. Since my home is in a low spot between a number of other homes and we do not have an aerial we miss the problem.

I say that getting rid of the problem is not a job I would like to have to do.

This is also a similar problem to how Aboriginal people have big problems. they are a beautiful people BUT white do gooders have moved in and told them that they are incapable of looking after themselves and that since the white man took away their habitat, they are "OWED" a living. What this has done is to take away the self supporting Pride of these people. I have talked to many of them who have good jobs and earn as much or more than the average white. These ones are very proud of their achievements even though they were told that they really were a disadvantaged people. They are NOT. White people do-gooders have convinced them that and when money is handed out like monopoly money, these unfortunate people get to the point of not being able to manage for themselves.

The Corellas do not belong in this area. The Aboriginal people DO but they do not need handouts, they need education which is compulsory for the whites but not so for these wonderful coloured people. They are not forced to make their children go to school as the whites are. Again, the do-gooders have moved in but there are Aboriginal people who hate the do-gooders. My cousin is married to a part Aboriginal, so this man is part of MY family. He will not let his children lower themselves to take the handouts. He did not tell me, his Son told me and he looks quite Aboriginal. They are a very hard working family of quite some substance and they got it through hard work, NO handouts. He is more colour prejudiced against his own people than most whites. What he despises is the slothfulness of those given the handouts.

When I look around at many of the homes of those who get the handouts, I see squaller and rubbish. Those Aboriginals with a work ethic have homes that one would never know they were Aboriginal.

Am I colour prejudiced? Not on your life. I say just give them a fair go WITHOUT the hand outs and they can achieve tremendously. It used to be that if you got lost in the bushland, an Aboriginal could teach you haw to exist off the land. Now, even they would not know how to exist and would die. We owe them alright, WE owe them to have a pride in themselves as first class citizens NOT third class sponges as they are being taught and like the Corellas stop the hand outs. They do not belong here full stop. They take the food of the normal birds who do belong and that helps towards the extinction of our true native birds.

When we think of all the species on Earth, that we are aware, how many are left to be discovered?
When we eliminate any species, through negligence, we have no idea if that particular species could be the one, to upset the balance of nature.
Which species could be the one to help us find a cure for a specific illness?

Because we have evolved into a stronger group, with a larger brain, does not give us the privilege to treat other members of our planet in an insignificant manner.

This, of course, is a gorgeous looking bird, but, then, all species are magnificent, in their own way.

I guess from Robert Garvin's remarks he perhaps resents the comments of "outsiders" on an "Australian" problem. The whiteman is of course an introduced species in Australia and of course America and elsewhere as well! I do hope he does not advocate the same cure for that as used by Mr Mawson against this bird!

What has the Corella have to do with the ABORIGINALS,

The NOONGARS ( Aborigines ) of this State are Damned if they do and Damned if they don't,

To the readers above.
It may intrest you to know that the ABORIGNIALS of this State were only
taken of the flora and fauna act in 1976 ,

Here is a general attitude of the ABORIGINAL in this State

If your Black stay back

if your Brown stick around

if your White your all right.

It shows me through your writings you know nothing a bout the ABORIGINALS or the values they go by.

Take the trouble of visiting the ELDERS from the STOLEN GENERATION,
and listen to the heart break, storys of there lives

go visit Marribank, Roelans, Mugumber, Sister kates, hear what really happend and what is still going on to day.

Every thing for ABORIGINALS in this State is set up to Fail,

I had my teen years growing up in boys homes with the Stolen Genaration
i have walked in there foot steps, i know what it's liked to be owned by the state till your 21.
I have worked most fo my adult and lived over most this State listening to the ELDERS about the Stolen Genaration.
Go in to the Desert and to communicate one has to learn the some of the language to get by, let alone understand the protacalls.

Sorry Gavin there is no liknes between a CORELLA and an ABORIINAL.

Why is it that Environment Departments everywhere wait until the problem becomes huge to find a solution, which is usually culling!!! If they were proactive and gave human, technical and financial assistance to their staff on the ground at an earlier stage, the problem would be controlable and solutions other than mass murder could be used. Disgusting in all its ugly shape and form!!
