U.S. Congress: Support Peaceful Alternatives to War ! PLEASE SIGN ! !

Society & Culture  (tags: humans, protection, war, peace, alternatives, criminal justice, environment, government )

It's not enough to just be against war. Proven and cost-effective alternatives to war don't get the support they deserve because politicians think Americans don't care.

Having served in one war and nearly a second, it is time to chuck war and learn peace.

To quote from a song from the late 60's "WAR! What is it good for, Absolutely nothing."

Noted, signed. Thanks Cher. I have to admit, I'm writing letters and signing petitions with a great deal of pessimism right now. Our Champion of Hope and Change has brought neither, and currently reminds me strongly of George Bush after rolling in oil.

And I don't think they continue wars because they think we don't care. They continue wars because every last one of the bastards is getting RICH off the death of our children. REVOLUTION is now a very viable option.

Tony Bennett told the story of how his mother told him killing others is a sin, and a horrible thing to do. Then he grew up, got drafted and the government told him to kill and kill others. He said war is a horrible thing, and there is no war that is justifiable. Martin Luther King said this, and they killed him too.

The silent majority will put up with anything. If they gotta wear gas masks to go to work in a polluted planet, buy bottled water when the kitchen tap pours out brown sludge, give up every civil right to be protected from "terrorist" thugs, they will and our representatives damn well know it. The founding fathers had balls, we have remote controls and the television is stuck on one channel.

Thanks Cher

3 thousand years ago Sparta and Athens made a 'deal' of defencive alliance that included a method whereby their young soldiers could compete against each other with their battle skills, but without killing each other. The Persian Army stood by in Troy (Turkey) and had been hoping those two city states would deplete each others' defences, but were now stymied. Sparta, Athens, and soon other city states of Hellenos competed regularly via this new system and showed their military capacity off with few to no deaths among each others' soldiers. The 'new method' was the Olympiad, a set of competitive sport games that honoured the gods, maintained military readiness, and prevented war among the city states.

If you want peace, be ready to defend it.

War makes money, that's why it happens. All worldwide conflicts could be solved easily with reasoning and scientific method, rather than brute force. War outlived all usefulness it had when the Cold War began.

To Fred Krohn: I will give you one thing. You are original. Beyond that, I have no idea why you think that history will influence the activities of the people in power, as we speak.
In fact, the Congress could care less, if they follow in the footsteps of Christ, or anyone else, that they claim to follow.
Obviously, you are a history buff, and that is admirable. However, after that you are delusional.
