Tell President Obama to Protect the Greater Grand Canyon Region From Mining ! PLEASE SIGN ! !

America's Grand Canyon and the lands surrounding it are some of the country's most cherished public lands and waters. This is no place for uranium mining that could leak toxic tailings into area waters, threatening wildlife, residents and visitors alike.

Gladly Signed. Lets not have drilling take a toll on what beauty nature gave us. We don't need to create a earthquake fault line that were not prepaired for with unexpected surprises.

How sad it is that this is even considered. Beauty should never be sacrificed for the greed of others. Something as dirty as coal should never come before the health of our planet.

This isn't our land to do with as we please -- this is land held in trust for the future. I am tired of corporations that will do anything for a short-sighted buck and the American people that let them. Don't blame the government, blame the corporations and the man in the mirror.

I can't believe they are even considering this. Isn't it bad enough they haven't cleaned all the toxic waste from the plutobium mining they debased this pristine environment through in the name of our 'security'? THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE LOOKING AT WAYS TO CLEAN UP THEIR LAST MINING DISASTERS - if it can even be done, not to mention the permanent effect on the flora, faune - the ecology not to mention the blight on our VIEW & experience of this NATIONAL treasure, WORLD WONDER

J D (52)
Sunday October 23, 2011, 2:13 am
It is not just a NATIONAL treasure, but a GIFT to the world, & it belongs to US, not as in U.S. but as in the people & animals now & in the FUTURE who deserve this asset - in tact.

I just signed. Everyone should watch Ken Burns: National Parks, America's Best Idea. Our national parks have been under attacks since day one by those people who want to make a quick buck and leave a massive clean up mess and eye sores to future generations.

The government - using tax $ of course, just spent time & resources ($) cleaning up the old plutonium mine. now this administration of 'change' I can't believe can even be tempted in the least to consider raping again this national treasure & world wonder.

Please don't succumb to big $ pressure. Think of your kids, our kids, our future!

J D (52)
Sunday October 23, 2011, 2:27 am
In case you didn't know, the US already raped & defaced this national treasure, this world wonder, & JUST spent big $ cleaning up a plutonium mine - whose effects may never be remedied. mining is bad, plutonium is dangerous, mining plutonium is BAD, mkay"
SO WE THE PEOPLE spent a bunch of money cleaning up (old defunct mine - no business left to pay for clean up if anyone could afford it - costs are astronomical, exorbitant & can never be 100% so the GOVERNMENT (read: TAX $, OUR $) pay for that - are going to have at her again.

FYI when mining regulations were made, it was in the days of old panning for gold, like that. You couldn't get a lot, or DO a lot - this is before even water pressure was being used, so to encourage mining & lure people west, the government made it possible to - buy land mining rights for 10 cents an acre! not a whole lot even then. NOW - despite efforts to change the ridiculous accomodations - which aren't even needed & should be irrelevant since MINING is NOT that way anymore, it is totally invasive for one thing, CAN YOU SEE why MINING is so PROFITABLE? Yet after raping the land & making profits, no one can AFFORD to be bothered to clean up... & strip mining is the worst, it leaves a giant hole of batten tock where once wilkdlife & an eco system floutished.

Mountain Top Removal is also happening in the Appalachian Mtn chain in WV, they are blowing up mountains and like Joyce says it leaves barren land hundreds of feet deep with rock where once wildlife and an eco system fourished, it's totally devastating!

@Lori C. THANK you for the heads up - maybe we could petition to stop it. WE STOPPED THE PLUTONIUM MINING in the GRAND CANYON once already, & now must fight to prevent it - but THE APPALACHIANS ARE LIKE HOME?SAFE HAVEN! I wonder if all the quakes etc. have to do with that mining? Anyway if there's not a petition already going to stop this, maybe we can start something... O & Lori C i can't reach you?
