And the best way to convince a jaguar to trigger a camera trap? Calvin Klein Obsession for Men. Seriously.

That's odd since you are supposed to keep little housecats away from the chems and essential oils in cologne and perfume. Essential oils can even kill cats as their bodies do not metabolize them.
Since there was recently an article explaining how big cats and small cats are the same... chems in fragrances also cause harm to humans. I can't imagine those chems in their lungs being a good thing.

Itís worth pointing out that most modern perfume makers use synthetic versions of civetone, extracted from palm oil, so that they donít have to harass actual civetsÖ

DID I JUST READ PALM OIL!!! Researching this.

Medical Definition of CIVET

: civet cat
: a thick yellowish musky-odored substance found in a pouch near the sexual organs of the civet cat and used in perfume

SERIOUSLY Calvin Klein!?

Most, but not all, perfume makers use synthetic version of civetone...lets get the rest to stop torturing civets when there's a synthetic hat can do the same thing. The article never said whether Calvin Kline uses real or synthetic - or did I miss that part?
Maybe the difference between housecats and the big cats smelling the scent is the fact our housecats are living with those scents 24/7 and there's no breezes to disperse the cloying scents of most perfumes, and air fresheners.

All I got out of the smoothly written article was palm oil use and civet sexual glands with which to make perfume. Why am I not surprised? Not good. Reprehensible, but then who stops the suffering of animals and the harvesting of palm oil? Nobody. They make noises, but they don't stop it. So the profiteers ride again.

I figured it had to do with "musk" from civets. Disgusting abuse of animals for human vanity!

As long as the stupid poachers don't start using perfume to try to catch the big cats....

Ok, that sucks. I used to wear Obsession in my younger days. Had no idea it used civetone. I can only assume that stuff isn't harvested humanely. Man, how can it smell so good? That is just so wrong. I feel bad now. :(

I do appreciate the article though. Even when it's painful, it's good to know.

(Here's hoping the women's version, which is what I wore, doesn't use civetone. Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, it's still deplorable. I'm just hoping I wasn't putting it on my body back in the day!)
