TOM II, the mascot of The University of Memphis passed away Wednesday morning, October 15, 2008. He was 17 years old. TOM II was recently diagnosed with cancer, so his caretakers decided it would be more humane to put him to sleep rather than have him

How sad. But I'm happy they decided to let him go so he wouldn't have to suffer. Now that's what I call responsible euthanazia. Thanks Cher, at least we know TOM awaits his caregivers at Rainbow Bridge. Sadly noted.

What a beautiful animal these Tigers just so sad to see him go so young. But they had a lot of compassion for him to not let him suffer. Thanks Cher C.

He was a beautiful animal, and I am sorry to have to see him be put to sleep. However, this was far more peaceful than the disease he was suffering--I totally agree with you, Barbcat. This reminds me of visiting the University of Memphis graduate biology department when I was in college, and I had a good time with it.

It's always very sad when we must euthanized an animal. But it is comforting to know that Tom has not suffered. It will be dead in peace.
