Fukushima's governor has just announced a historic declaration vowing to power his prefecture with renewables rather than nuclear power. If we can act fast we can press all of our governors to follow this inspiring lead.

Noted but couldn't sign: for residents of Japan only. I hope Fukushima's governor will have plenty of popular support and can persuade all the governors to drop nuclear power!

Renewable energy will never meet global energy demands so long as people consume so much energy. If people, whether by mandate or voluntarily, cannot reduce their energy consumption, then the only choice we will have to meet that demand without fossil fuels is nuclear. Renewable energy to work is going to require great sacrifice and we all have to be ready to commit for the rest of our lives.

Thank you, Naoko, for the post & Carole for the message alerting me.

This ongoing tragedy in Japan breaks my heart for all those who have suffered & continue to do so; as well as for the moms who don't know what to feed their children, who are trying to get people to bring fresh produce from uncontaminated areas, who can't let their children play outside.

French TV showed quite a few documentaries for the anniversary of the earthquake, tsunami & nuclear catastrophe and I was horrified to see how terribly the nuclear company handled the disaster & how unprepared they were for it; how the Japanese govt was very much kept in the dark & failed to take decisive action - like evacuating people immediately & evacuating beyond the 20 kilometer limit.

We have to abandon nuclear energy - that is absolutely clear.
