Well, actually Biden's "eulogy" offers nothing of the kind. Joe Biden has the same amount of drama when he is campaigning and recently in his fumbled, laughathon debate with Paul Ryan. Joe Biden is not a man to be praised. He is a chameleon, an actor, and loves "performing" in public.

Granted, it was generous of him to say nice things about McGovern, a man I admired, but Joe Biden in no way demonstrated character and trustworthiness IMO. He was just playing a part for the audience. He loves doing that.

Now that is pathetic, you can't even acknowledge compassion when you see it displayed. I guess those who have none can not see it in others. You admired McGovern? You certainly allowed those values to slip through the cracks.

Thanks, Joanne. Biden is a very good man, saying farewell to a friend that he admired. My Uncle was the governor of South Dakota and knew Senator McGovern to be good and honest man.

Biden said:

People say to me now, and I wonder now, whatever gave you the courage as a 29-year-old kid to announce to the united sates senate against a man who had an 82% favorable rating in a year when we knew it was going to be tough. What gave you the courage to run? Or some thought what made you so fool hardy. The answer, and you girls should know this, was your father; your father. I didn't know him when I announced for the Senate. But I honest to God believed that I could, maybe could, go help him end this war. I honest to God believed that. [break in tape] What people don't realize, had your father not been there; had your father not been in the Senate, so much more blood, so much more treasure would have been wasted. The war would have never ended when it did. It would have never ended how it did. Your father gave courage to people who didn't have the courage to speak up, to finally stand up. Your father stood there and took all of that beating. Your father, who was characterized by these right-wing guys as a coward and unwilling to fight. Your father was a genuine hero. The irony used to make me so angry, so angry, that your father would never speak up and talk about his heroism. Your father had more courage; physical courage in his little finger than 95% of those guys who continued to fight, to fight a a war we shouldn't have fought in the first place. But because he took such a miserable beating, he actually, even though he didn't win that election, he won the end of the war. It would have never ended.

**As Rachel Maddow pointed out in her comments after playing that clip, Vice President Joe Biden not only did right by the memory of Senator McGovern, but also demonstrated something that has been central to Biden's political career: "being able to tell incredibly powerful and accessible stories that connect human beings to values and to big political ideas."

Kit, is this the same Joe Biden with "character and trustworthiness" who said to Tyrone Wood's father publicly, "Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?" Is this the same Joe Biden?

Joe Biden is a disgrace in our White House. Someone needs to check him out for Altzheimer's because he is one heartbeat away from the presidency and the majority of voters KNOW it. When voters cast a vote for Obama they cast a vote for a deranged vice president.

Breathtaking....this thread.

Diane, I'm surprised you can talk when you have your head so far up your butt - what the hell is wrong with admitting that Joe Biden is a good man? Are you so warped in your hatred that you can no longer see good in anything?
Biden's eulogy was beautiful - McGovern was ahead of his time but still fought the good fight. Too bad that because of the "low information voters" we ended up with Nixon instead of McGovern. How different we might be.

Arielle, your personal attack has been noted. You never needed to go there but to answer your question, Joe Biden is a chameleon. He's an actor. There's not a serious bone in his body. Normal people don't act like Joe Biden and this man is a heartbeat away from the presidency. That alone will cost Obama major votes because we can't afford to have a buffoon as president. Joe Biden is a disgrace to our White House.

Joe needs to be checked for Altzheimers. Twice in the past month while campaigning he mentioned the state he was in and he was wrong. I read where he took his daughter with him to help him so he wouldn't make anymore gaffes. So, are you telling me that knowing all of this about Joe Biden, including his unpresidential "laughathon" during his debate with Paul Ryan, that I should take him seriously because he said some nice words about McGovern? Are you serious?

The liberals cannot erase or make excuses for Joe Biden. He's a loon.

You have your freedom of speech. You might start by telling me how presidential Biden is. You have a captive audience.

Joe Biden is the one who made that unpresidential comment to Tyrone Wood's a father whose son was murdered because President Obama denied requested added security.

We just can't make this stuff up. It's real. It happened. And Joe Biden's words flow out of his own mouth. Can't blame Romney and Ryan for this.

Joe Biden....a heartbeat away from the presidency.....making a lewd and insensitive comment like that to the father who lost his son because of Obama's failure to lead in a time of crisis.

Obama's leading from behind caused American's to die needlessly.

If people paid enough attention to character and trustworthiness, we would never have had either a Nixon or G.W. Bush presidency!
If enough people continue to ignore these traits we might have a Romney one to add to the list of "what could they have been thinking?"

As usual Diane ignores facts so she promote her personal views. Nothing new.

Diane , Tyrone Woods' mother has this to say:

The entire afternoon was overpowering and unreal. Little did I know that I would find myself in a reception room being comforted, hugged, and, yes, even kissed by the President of the United States. Along with the President, there was Vice-President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and General and Mrs. Colin Powell. They were all wonderful. They held my hand, offered condolences, gave warm hugs, and were extremely compassionate and genuinely sad for my loss, as I fought back tears and tried to project an image of strength to honor my SEAL son. (more on

Are you sure Mr. Woods is not the one who is senile?

Joanne, I haven't read about Mrs. Wood's INITIAL COMMENTS. However, I have read her later comments and she was very angry about the President covering up what actually happened and what he knew about extra security being requested and then denied.

What is telling here is that none of you liberals are commenting on Joe Biden's outrageous question about Mr. Wood's son having balls the size of cue balls. Why are you ignoring what Biden said? Too embarrassed to comment? Or are you as appalled as I am that the vice president made such a lewd comment to a man who just lost his son? folks take the cake.

This proves that you are extremely "selective" in what you will discuss. If it's negative towards Biden or Obama you simply ignore it. This is why Romney will win the election. You may ignoring the obvious but the American people across our country are paying attention. That's all that matters.

I am very sensitive, which seems to hone my ability to assess a person's character. I have never met Joe Biden, but have watched him on TV, and I feel that he is a very caring individual, just unpolished and tactless, which I have unfortunately been guilty of, although I really do care.

thanks....yes, Joe Biden has done a good job as VP and deserves another 4 years...the 20/20 retrospective scope lets us all see that Mr. Mc Govern was indeed a very good person......

Those comments about Biden are directly from none other than Glenn Beck!
Men speak to one another differently, and using the phase "balls the size of cue balls" is a form of male flattery, most are aware of these statements among men. That comment is neither lewd nor insensitive.

Stop working so hard at trying to make stew from rocks and water, Diane. Try to think beyond the Beckinan mind set, try to do your own analysis of each issue.

Well, even a "stopped clock is right twice a day." The fact that you don't like Glenn Beck means nothing, Kit, absolutely nothing. He called it right on this one.

Kit, what did you think of Joe Biden's comment to Mr. Woods asking him if his son's balls were as big as cue balls?" Please tell us how you felt about Joe Biden when he asked that question of Mr. Woods publicly?

I doubt you'll respond to this question.

Ah, what a difference a few years makes...
Recall when people liked W. because they wanted to have beer with him? He was a regular guy?
Now the same crowd it seems likes to demonize like ability. I will take someone I can trust, like Biden, over Romney and Ryan who continually demonstrate Romnesia any day. Doesn't trust matter anymore?
Trustless or trustworthy, you decide.

George McGovern was a man of principle. It is only right that he be praised. We need more people like him.
