Excerpt: " Called "Accuracy isn’t priority as VA battles disability claims backlog," the report reveals how thousands of veterans have been denied disability benefits as a result of errors by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Glantz tells the story of Navy veteran Hosea Roundtree, whose claim for disability compensation was denied by the VA despite Roundtree suffering flashbacks of a shelling he witnessed in Beirut while aboard a U.S. Navy ship in 1983. The VA has a duty to assist veterans in developing their facts and evidence to support their claims, but the department reprimanded one of its own employees for attempting to do just that for Roundtree.

Jamie Fox lost her job in 2008 after she wrote a memo to her boss arguing that Roundtree’s disability benefits were being denied wrongfully. An internal VA document later showed the agency failed to perform its duty to assist in nearly 11,000 cases at the time, despite the VA acknowledging it makes mistakes on 14 percent of disability claims.

We speak with Fox and Glantz, who is a reporter for the Bay Citizen, a part of the nonprofit Center for Investigative Reporting. He is also the author of three books, most recently, "The War Comes Home: Washington’s Battle Against America’s Veterans." More at link..

I wish I could say that this is unlike the VA, America's government, but that would be a lie. Gene the veteran we have looked after for 23 years was lost, no records could be found, for 29 years..when I met Gene he was living in squalor. Gene would say that he did not exist. At the time I had no idea what Gene was referring to.

But because of my brothers problems after serving in the military I had made a promise to assist any veteran I could. Gene was so out of it that those who knew him for years would tell me he was a liar. That I should not waste my time assisting him. It seems someone attempted to help Gene but ran into a brick wall and gave up..

Because Gene was clearly messed up from years of living like a hermit it took time to get pertinent info in order to assist him.

The more Gene & I talked some things rang true while others were odd and made no sense.. . So I began what would take 2 years to help Gene get some veterans benefits, I will talk about Genes case in more detail when "We" air our "World Pulse Radio Show"..

I will also be speaking to what my brother and his family were put through after Richard was sent home with PTSD.

Genes story brings in White Sands, 2 hitches, Korea, and a number of other issues which will be discussed. How someone, in this case Gene, could be unceremoniously lost in the United States of American..For 29 years..

We are almost ready to air the entire website..

Not only has the President I voted for let down veterans with backlogged claims he supports a chain CPI which will cut Social Security benefits for disabled vets and seniors. I tweeted @barackobama this story. Hope more members will and tell him what you think. You can also tweet @michelleobama to tell her how the President is letting down his veterans. All this while corporations pay 0 to 5% taxes because they are stashing their money in other countries. We are forced to gain a much louder voice to stop this. Wonder if veterans could demonstrate outside the capital? Something needs to be done for them and their families NOW!
