Thank you very much, Penelope, for posting this. I will share it on my page.

I love mustangs, perhaps for what they represent: the untamed spirit of the wild, the free, the unspeakably magnificent... And it seems to be that which they represent, whatever it is, that those who want to subdue them particularly hate, I am afraid. All of the reasons and schemes they have concocted so that they can carry out their plan, all of which are incomprehensible. The mere sight of horses running freely in the open must be great, just as it is rare, just as it is a source of joy and that of pride to be taken in this precious legacy. The fight must go on so as pro-horse advocates win and these horses survive for the future generations to come. I would see it as a great, irreversible loss were it not to be so.

The title should be an American Icon betrayed by an UNGRATEFUL NATION.
I'll get this around Penny. Thank you
Oh Penny, I did send an email to that group. I'd finally had enough and invited them to the fight. I have NOT heard back from them yet.

Many thanks for posting this, Penelope . . . and to Kathy for leading me here.

This callous and ungrateful treatment of these beautiful and noble animals (who, by the way, were an integral part of the early stages of this country's development) is sinful.

They deserve to be revered.

Bucephala, or Alexandria Bucephalus, was a city founded by Alexander the Great and named in honor of his horse, Bucephalus.

So much he cared for his friend that he gave him that Honor, I have never seen or heard of someone giving that kind of Honor to a Horse, I see the Cruelty in which they are being treated and it just breaks my heart, if it was not for the Horse there would be no world, it was with the Horse that people were able to conquered the world, and this is how they pay them back by mistreating and killing their sons and daughters with no remorse, how SHAMEFUL!!!

Perhaps, what we need is a "re-definition."

   /ˈneɪʃən/ Show Spelled[ney-shuhn]

1. a large body of people, associated with a particular territory, that is sufficiently conscious of its unity to seek or to possess a government peculiarly its own: The president spoke to the nation about the new tax.

2. the territory or country itself: the nations of Central America.

3. a member tribe of an American Indian confederation.

4. an aggregation of persons of the same ethnic family, often speaking the same language or cognate languages.

The problem with most of these "definitions" is that, they do not give equality to Mother Earth and the other animals that share it, as they do to "man." (Probably because they were given definitions by humans, who misunderstood that their dominion over animals came with the responsibility of their protection.)

ALL are equal. AND ALL deserve consideration.

I am not a religious person, but I am, without any reservation, a spiritual one.

ALL that we have as part of our being should be given equal respect. Disrespect of ANY one unite, disrespects the intent of us all to live in harmony.

It's beyond comprehension that any "creator" could devise such an intricate, and inter-dependent universe -- each adding to, or detracting from, the others survival -- in order to secure its own.

It's our own arrogance, and disregard for the dignity of the other elements, that will be our own undoing.

Noted. Thank you for posting, Penelope, and thank you for forwarding, Kathy.

The Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is conducting cruel roundups of wild horses and burros from public lands at the behest of wealthy "welfare" livestock ranchers who graze their animals virtually free on our public lands. Ranchers consider the wild horses competition for their livestock and pressure BLM to remove them. As with its corrupt former sister agency the Minerals Management Service which ignored the general public interest in favor of oil and gas special interests resulting in the catastrophic Gulf oil disaster, BLM ignores the opinions of the vast majority of the American public and the interests of American taxpayers to do the bidding of these welfare ranchers.

Noted, and thanks for the article. So many good comments... wish I could have handed out a handful to everyone.... I think it's a crying shame we're even having this discussion. People need to leave the horses in peace, to run free. Bringing harm to them is so senseless and cruel, it makes me ashamed...

When all of humanity can put themselves in the same position as what they so easily do to all other beings who have as much right to be treated with respect & protection then & only then will we finally understand the true meaning of life & why we are here on this earth to begin with! Until such time that this would possibly happen we will never have Peace between the human race nor ever understand unconditional love which animals have always understood! We profess to be the wisest of the animal species yet our cruelty, abuse, arrogance know no bounds when it comes to our animals counterpart! We have a superior notion which in my opinion is a demonic trait as why should we even contemplate such a idiotic concept! All life has the right to share space with all others on this Mother Earth! No exception to this rule! Thanks Penelope.

Thanks Penny! I've been writing letters and signing petitions for our mustangs for years, as Sleazar and the BLM "thin" the herds to completely unsustainable numbers! The herd sizes they set as their goal will diminish genetic diversity enough to cause the horses to die out over time, which is the goal of the cattlemen who pay RIDICULOUSLY low amounts to graze their cattle all over OUR public lands! It's sickening to know that many of them land in these meat trucks too!

I live in India and the decimation of any native animal population is a heart-rending affair, be it tigers, elephants, horses , wolves or bison. What gives any human the right to end the life of any native animal and in some cases peoples.

All I have to say is, if you've seen enough, heard enough, had enough, are you ready to get up & FIGHT BACK?? The American government is on a one-way, out of control track to completely destroy OUR native, wild horses & burros, unless we actually DO something to STOP them!! So much for "cutting wasteful spending!" Not to mention all the horrific animal abuse they are responsible for, & the eventual extinction of these iconic, beautiful creatures from the wild. So much for freedom, if you think of it, each one of these wild horses represents each one of us. America doesn't treat her people much better than these mustangs, we are a "Nation Betrayed". How we treat our animals, whether they are domestic or wild, IS a direct reflection on ourselves, & the picture is NOT pretty! When we get mad enough, will it be too late??

This really upsets me. Everytime I get a call from the Obama re-election committee, I tell them I will not vote for Obama if Ken Salazar remains on his staff - and I won't. We cannot take 4 more years of Salazar.
