Senior Palestinian Authority officials, Sunday, accused Israeli authorities of preventing a Palestinian doctor from visiting Palestinian hunger striker Muhammad Allan at Barzilai Medical Center.

Issa Qaraqe, the head of the PA Prisoners' Affairs Committee, and PA Minister of Health Jawwad Awwad accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of personally interfering in the case and preventing Dr. Hani Abdeen from visiting Allan to examine his health.

According to Ma'an, they said that it was an attempt to conceal Allan's state of health, and that it indicated Netanyahu's "intention" to allow Allan to die.

Netanyahu's chief spokesperson, Mark Regev, said he could not confirm whether Netanyhu had interfered, but added that he "did not know that to be true."

The official Palestinian news site in Gaza, Al-Ray, said earlier on Sunday that Israeli authorities had decided to allow Dr. Abdeen to visit Allan.

Dr. Abdeen was selected by the PA Prisoners' Affairs Committee and the Ministry of Health after Palestinian members of the Israeli Knesset requested that a Palestinian doctor be allowed to examine Allan.

Allan, who is a lawyer from the West Bank village of Einabus, has been on hunger strike 62 days. He slipped into a coma on Friday after his health deteriorated sharply, and Barzilai Medical Center has since connected him to ventilators and is giving him fluids and sodium intravenously.

The medical center has suggested it might make use of a controversial new Israeli law to force feed him.

Allan went on hunger strike to protest his administrative detention -- internment without trial or charge -- which he has been held under since November.

ACTION ALERT Hunger striker Mohammad Allan in coma, near death

Contact the White House and State Department now to demand his release

(WASHINGTON DC 08/14/2015) – Political prisoner attorney Mohammad Allan is in a coma and on a ventilator, reportedly near death, after 59 days of a hunger strike he waged to protest being held under administrative detention.

Under administrative detention, prisoners are held without charge or trial. They are usually held for six months at a time period, which can be renewed indefinitely. The tactic, used commonly by Israel against Palestinians, contravenes numerous international laws as well as American laws the stipulate recipients of US foreign aid must uphold human rights.

Allan began his hunger strike on June 16, 2015 to protest the May renewal of his administrative detention for a further six months. in May. Israeli occupation authorities have refused Allan’s call to be released and instead tried to coerce Allan to end his hunger strike, according to prisoners’ rights group Addameer.

As is the case with many Palestinian political prisoners, Israel has deprived Allan of his rights to due process. They have held him for nine months without bringing any charges against him or without a trial.

The United States, as Israel’s largest financial supporter, is in a unique position to pressure Israel to release Allan. Call, email and Tweet today to ask President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry to uphold our American values of justice, liberty and due process by demanding Israel release Allan today and to ensure he gets adequate medical treatment.

White House - 202-456-1111

Secretary Kerry - 202-647-9572

•Administrative Detention violates international laws and American laws.
•American law stipulates that countries receiving US foreign military assistance must uphold human rights.
•Holding Mohammad Allan without charge or trial is inhumane and violates all American values we hold so dear.
•Demand Israel release Allan immediately and ensure he receives proper medical attention.

President Barack Obama - @POTUS
Secretary Kerry - @JohnKerry

Countries receiving US foreign aid must uphold human rights #MohammadAllan is dying Israel denied his rights @POTUS @JohnKerry

.@POTUS @JohnKerry Plz demand Israel release dying hunger striker #MohammadAllan Administrative Detention is illegal and against US values

Administrative detention is illegal and goes against our values yet we still support Israel #MohammadAllan is dying @POTUS @JohnKerry

Do not let #MohammadAllan die for fighting for his human rights @POTUS @JohnKerry

Update - Israeli Court set to discuss appeal of releasing hunger-striker in coma.

The Israeli High Court on Monday is set to discuss the appeal to release Palestinian administrative prisoner and hunger-striker, Mohammad Allan.

The 30-year-old prisoner went into coma on Friday, within the second month of strike. He currently lies in the ICU of Barzilai hospital, occupied Askalan (Ashkelon) south of Israel, in critical conditions.

The prisoner’s lawyer, Kamal Nattour, appealed to the court on Saturday for release on medical grounds.

Allan has been held by Israel without trial since November as an administrative prisoner, which means that he was arrested without being told what his charge is. The administrative confinement is 6 months than can be infinitely renewed.

Israeli occupation government says that if Allan wakes up from his coma and still wants to continue with hunger-strike, the internationally forbidden force-feeding procedure will take place, since the Knesset in July passed law that legalized it.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club submitted a request to hospital officials Sunday asking them to wake Allan from the coma in order to check where he stands on his condition, according to Haaretz.

Several demonstrations in support of Allan have been held since his condition began to deteriorate over the past two weeks, and especially over the weekend.

On Sunday, IOF arrested at least 15 people in demonstrations outside the Barzilai Medical Center. Two people were lightly injured.

The Israeli police has thus far repressed the demonstration of some 200 protesters, some of them Israeli.
During the protest, Israeli extremist settlers went against the pro-release protesters, causing the erupt of clashes.

The demonstration called by far-right Jewish activists, including prominent lawyer Itamar Ben-Gvir, was joined later Sunday evening by some Ashkelon residents. Demonstrators shouted “Death to Arabs.”

Last Monday, Allan was moved to Barzilai medical center in Askalan, in preps to be force-fed. However, the hospital administration and doctors said that they refuse to do it, since it is unethical, violates a peaceful form of protest, and endangers the life of the prisoner.

Why should a Palestinian doctor visit? The prisoner is receiving treatment at a hospital and does not ned someone whose experience may not include treating someone who is on a voluntary hunger strike.

And, let's face it, it's more than the Palestinians will allow for the Israelis that they capture and torture to death.

As for being held, I haven't seen the evidence so am unable to comment but it seems that similar ignorance doesn't stop people like jess commenting that Israel has to be in the wrong. How do you know, are you psychic?

..doesn't stop the drivel and kvetch from people like Baxter, going on about 'Israel' - yawn.

Zero compassion for the suffering, inflicted on Palestinians, because of Israel's disregard and violations of International Laws, decades long, illegal, occupation of Palestine and siege of Gaza.

You're right Jess and hit the nail on the head! And don't forget the ... thousands of Israelis that the Palestinians capture and torture to death ... I guess we still have to hear about those seemingly (acc. to Penny) ongoing atrocities ... which the MSM obviously forgot to report!
