Five Palestinian young men, Basil al-Araj, 33; Mohammed Harb, 23; Haitham Siyaj, 19; Mohammed al-Salamen, 19; and Ali Dar al-Sheikh, 22, are currently imprisoned by the Palestinian Authority; their detention was extended on Monday, 11 April for 15 more days by the PA’s Magistrate’s Court for them to undergo further interrogation. The story of their discovery, arrest and imprisonment has been widely reported in Palestinian media; several of the young men are well-known community and civil activists.

The context of these arrests is that of ongoing PA security coordination with the Israeli occupation. These young men are not a threat to Palestinian security; they are well-known, beloved members of their community and trusted strugglers for the freedom of the Palestinian people. They are not being detained and tortured to protect the Palestinian people, but because the Palestinian Authority, under the Oslo Accords, is a subcontractor of arrests, surveillance and imprisonment to the Israeli occupation that is daily killing Palestinians, imprisoning thousands, carrying out home demolitions, land confiscation, settlement building, racist repression and preventing millions of Palestinian refugees from returning home.

Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network urges people of conscience around the world to take action and demand that the PA release these five young men and hold accountable those who have tortured and abused them. It is critically important for international supporters of the Palestinian people and Palestinian cause and Palestinians around the world to make their voices heard and demand an end to the arrest and torture of these young men and the policy of security coordination which has brought about this situation.

I signed this too, Thanks.

If this wretched war between Palestine and Israel would not be so awful, I would say he is grotesque and I think both sides have completely lost all realities from view.

As long as there is massive difference between how Palestinians are treated under "administrative Detention compared to mild treatment of extremist settlers like Meir Ettinger with crimes of murder on his conscience (if he HAS a conscience) - such extended detention of Palestinians is shameful, and all the more so in the many cases where some vague "suspicion" is used an an excuse ...

As this petition was back in April I tried to find some update on this. There was a site but I couldn't access but it did have this much I could see:

The order is set to end on 22 August 2016, but may be renewed indefinitely. ... Al-Araj (33 years old), Mohammed Harb (23 years old), Haytham Siyaj (19 years old), Mohammed Al-Salamen (19 years old) and Ali Dar al Sheikh (22 years old

So I signed because it appears they are still detained at least until Aug. but the review may go on indefinitely so that isn't a good sign.....indefinitely is no end in sight.

You signed “Palestinian Authority: Free Five Young Palestinian Activists from Political Detention” I'm 515

Dandelion - you put your finger on the heart of the problem:
Administrative Detention has a relatively short time frame, but can be extended repeatedly ('indefinitely' since there is no limit to how many times this can happen), and such extensions depend on a court that is not part of any civil justice process. It does not require any formal charge against the detainee. So the cause for AD can be (and often is) mere suspicion, accusations by some interested party (e.g. extremist settlers, &/or IDF members - those 2 are not mutually exclusive categories, Israeli officials etc).

AD is not ONLY applicable to Palestinians. Indeed, theoretically, those Israeli Jews/Zionists responsible for Price Tag crimes are supposedly to be given AD sentences - but very few have been. And one of these, Meir Ettinger, (leader of the extremists responsible for the Dawabsheh family killings last July & described by Shin Bet as "the number one target of the agency's Jewish Division, the "ideological director" of the perpetrators of Jewish terror attacks,") barely served 9 months before being released.

Palestinians detained and mistreated by Palestinians - and apparently its Israel's fault.
Nobody is forcing the PA to do it, they're doing it of their own volition.

Don't forget to mention, the weapons and hand grenades they were said to be in possession of when arrested. They were going to commit MURDER. And they would have done, had they not been arrested by the PA security forces.
Mistreat them, no, but they were right to arrest them. It's no more than any other government would have done.

And Abdessalam chips in with what looks suspiciously like support for genocide ....

And then you wonder why people accuse you of anti-Semitism.

Incidentally, Hamas have tortured and executed - by hanging and firing squad - Palestinians, denied a fair trial, none of you lot said a word.
There are others awaiting the same fate. Will you be doing a thread for them too?
