Ask the Trump administration to end the punitive measures against the Palestinians

I am deeply concerned with the decisions that the Trump administration has taken on such strong and harsh levels. The measures taken against the people of Palestine are both disheartening and cruel policies that will have damaging implications.

The blatant disregard for Palestinian autonomy not only and obviously harms the Palestinians, but also shows that Trump’s administration does not believe in any sort of autonomy or legitimate representation of the Palestinian people.

As you are aware, following the Jerusalem declaration in December, the administration has taken the following steps that severely impact hundreds of thousands of Palestinian's.
1. Stopped all U.S. funding to U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

2. Trying to change the definition of a refugee which would cap the number to less than 1% of the refugees registered with UNRWA
*Reducing the number from over 5 million to 40,000.

3. Slashed $25 million of US assistance to the East Jerusalem Hospital Network.
*Due to many Israeli restrictions, many patients, such as those suffering from cancer, can only receive treatment in Jerusalem hospitals, as these treatment options are not available in other hospitals in the West Bank and Gaza.)

4. Rescinded $200 million in congressionally allocated humanitarian aid to Gaza and the West Bank
*By cutting these important aid programs, the Trump Administration will only exacerbate tensions between the Israelis and Palestinians, while further diminishing opportunities for lasting peace.

5. The Administration has failed to push back on Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s demolitions of Palestinian communities in the West Bank, like Khan Al Ahmar, and continues to build illegal settlements.

6. The administration closed the Washington DC-base office of the PLO Mission to the U.S., the sole legitimate representative to the Palestinian people.

The actions of the administration is also hurting 600,000 American Palestinians from exercising their rights to buy and sell property, invest in Palestine to help grow the economy, and help their family members who are suffering from these deep and severe drastic measures.

Please take the appropriate actions necessary to end these punitive measures.

Please request the Congressional Research Service (CRS) investigate and report on the ramifications that such measures will cause.

We thank you in advance for reading and hope your attention will bring a positive change.

Palestinian cabinet calls on int’l community to end Israel’s demolition crimes.

The Palestinian Cabinet praises the visit of the Prime Minister to Jordan, applauds the agreement to hold the sixth meeting of the Joint Jordanian-Palestinian Higher Committee next year in Palestine, welcomes the first official political dialogue between Palestine and the European Union, and commends the UNCTAD report on the economic situation in Palestine.

During its weekly meeting held in Ramallah on Tuesday, the Palestinian Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Rami Al- Hamdallah, called upon the international community to take concrete steps to stop Israel, the occupying Power from committing its planned demolishing crimes, and to hold it accountable for its culture of impunity, and force it to abide by the International Law, and condemned the Trump administration decision to cut $10 million in aid to Palestinian institutions as part of its continuous blackmailing chapters against the rights of our people and their national cause.

The Cabinet noted that the US administration, by its latest decision, had suspended all forms of civilian aid to the Palestinians. In January 2018, the US had already cut $65 million of its support to the UNRWA. In August 2018, it halted $200 million in aid to economic and humanitarian projects in the West Bank and reduced the amount of $200 million in assistance to the UNRWA. In September 2018, it suspended the funding of $25 million provided to hospitals in East Jerusalem as well as another $10 million for Palestinian institutions.

It also commended the international community, particularly the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom), and the European Parliament for taking a position against the Israeli planned crime to demolish Khan Al- Ahmar Bedouin Community to the East of Occupied Jerusalem.

On the other hand, the Cabinet discussed the outcomes of the meeting of Dr. Al-Hamdallah with his Jordanian counterpart Dr. Omar Al-Razzaz and other Jordanian officials in the Jordanian capital Amman. The meeting revolved around enhancing trade and joint industrial zones between both countries, increasing Jordanian imports to half billion USD, establishing a logistics area between Palestine and Jordan as well as an agricultural marketing and Hajj and Umrah companies. During the meeting, both prime ministers stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of the 22 understandings and agreements signed between the two countries, which include trades and investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, culture, social development, and energy.

Dr. Al-Hamdallah, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, called upon the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to hold the sixth meeting of the Jordanian- Palestinian Joint Higher Committee next year in Palestine, and is ready to take all necessary steps to well prepare for it. He also praised the constant role played by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in sponsoring and protecting the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian sanctifies in Jerusalem.

In addition, the Cabinet Welcomed the Palestinian and European formal political dialogue for the first time, held last Wednesday in the Belgian capital Brussels and headed by Dr. Khariya Rassas, adviser to the PM Dr. Al-Hamdallah. The dialogue included presenting the Palestinian-European Joint Committee report, which discussed the comprehensive partnership agreement between the state of Palestine and the European Union, the critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and possible ways to empower and endorse the Palestinian government to return to Gaza as well as the Israeli crimes around the so-called “Area C” and occupied Jerusalem. On the same note, the Palestinian delegation called for the acceleration of the signing the full partnership agreement with the European Union, and the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine to protect the two-state solution, and the condemnation of Israel’s unjustified crimes and illegal policies of colonial expansion, land confiscation and displacement of Palestinian citizens. On its behalf, the EU emphasized its commitment towards the two-state solution on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine. The EU also expressed its rejection of the US latest moves against Jerusalem, refugees’ status and UNWRA, as well as the so- called “E1” Israeli colonial plan to displace Palestinians in Khan Al-Ahmar and other Bedouin communities. Moreover, The EU renewed its support for the legitimate Palestinian leadership represented by President Abbas and the Palestinian Government as a partner in the bilateral relations with the European Union and Member States.

Finally, the Cabinet commended the report of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the economic situation in Palestine. It stressed that such report is an important international document since it condemns the Israeli occupation, which is the main obstacle to the growth and development of the Palestinian economy. The report documented that the Palestinian economy suffers due to five factors, four of which are closely related to the Israeli occupation and its policies. These factors include accelerating the land annexation process and settlement expansion in the West Bank, continuing economic deterioration in the Gaza Strip as a result of the blockade, and restricting the Palestinian trade. Israel has sharply branded the report “flawed” and “detrimental to development”.The Cabinet stressed that there is no development under the Israeli occupation, and therefore the international community must fulfill its obligations to improve and develop our national economy, foremost of which is lifting the Israeli restrictions and control over our economy, and facilitating the ability to invest and benefit from our natural resources, especially in the so-called Area C.

TAKE ACTION: Call the White House/your representatives - US slashes aid to Palestinian hospitals in Jerusalem.
September 17, 2018

Five million Palestinians will be affected by the $25 million reduction in aid, hospital officials report.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday, September 8, 2018, ordered the State Department to withhold 25 million dollars earmarked as aid to Palestinian hospitals in Jerusalem. The cut is a part of a government review of aid. “Those funds will go to high-priority projects elsewhere,” a State Department official told the Middle East Eye.”

Six Palestinian hospitals that constitute the East Jerusalem Hospital Network (EJHN) are the targets of the decision: the Makassed Islamic Charitable Hospital, Augusta Victoria Hospital, Red Crescent Maternity Hospital, St John’s Eye Hospital, Princess Basma Rehabilitation Centre and St Joseph’s Hospital. These hospitals have defended the Palestinian healthcare system and training of health professionals under Israeli occupation. Through a referral system, the hospitals provide lifesaving services to Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and West Bank that are otherwise unavailable to them, such as cancer care, cardiac and eye surgeries, neonatal intensive care, children’s dialysis and physical rehabilitation of children.

The 25 million dollars was approved by the US Congress to be sent to EJNG hospitals in order to settle bills for patients referred to them by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in 2017. In a joint press release, the hospitals announced that the decision will affect the healthcare of 5 million Palestinians.

Director of Augusta Victoria Hospital Walid Nammor said in a press conference for the hospital network the that the cut in aid will be devastating in terms of Palestinian health. Director of Makassed Hospital Bassam Abu Libdeh said, “The US decision is a continuation of political dictates against the Palestinian government and the Palestinians people.” The speakers in the press conference called on the US government to reverse its decision and on the international community to step in and preserve the integrity of Palestinian hospitals and medical care in Jerusalem.

The cuts to Jerusalem hospitals came a week after the US announced it would cut all funds to the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA). US President Donald Trump has framed these funding cuts as a way to pressure Palestinian negotiators to accede to policies of Israeli occupation.

Israel Military Must Release to Gaza Medical Supplies from Gaza Flotilla.

Petition Text

Please sign our demand that the Israeli military release 114 boxes of medical supplies-sterile gauze and sutures- to the Gaza health system.

Why is this important?

For 22 consecutive Fridays, Palestinians have gone to the border with Israel demanding the end to the horrific Israeli blockade of Gaza. Israeli snipers have wounded by gunfire 6729 including 1140 children, 203 women, 78 journalists and 103 paramedics. Among those wounded, 422 are in serious condition and 69 persons' lower or upper limbs were amputated. Thousands of others suffered tear gas inhalation and sustained bruises. The Gaza health facilities need medical supplies.

Two boats of the 2018 Gaza Freedom Flotilla carried 114 boxes of medical supplies-sterile gauze and sutures-for the Gaza health system. By international law, Israel must deliver them to the Gaza border. One month has passed since the Israeli military hijacked the boats, arrested, imprisoned and deported 34 persons on the boats. While the amount of medical supplies is small compared to the massive need, it is critical to force Israel to abide by international law and let medical supplies into Gaza.
Please sign the petition to put pressure on the Israeli government to deliver the 114 boxes of medical supplies to the Gaza health system.

And call the Israeli Embassy in your country and your Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Department of State demanding the release of the medical supplies.

In the U.S., call the Israeli Embassy at 202-364-5500 and the Department of State at 202-647-4000 and ask for the Office of Israel/Palestine Affairs.
