The Israeli military court in Salem, north of the northern occupied West Bank district of Jenin, sentenced Palestinian prisoner, Khader Adnan, to one year in prison, fined him 1,00 shekels ($270) and 18 months suspended sentence for five years, on Monday.

Jawad Boulous, head of the legal department in the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), said that the prison sentence starts from the day of his arrest on December 11, 2017.

Adnan, 40, a father of seven children, has been on an open hunger strike for 58 days and even stopped drinking water, as a form of protest against his “arbitrary” detention by Israel.

Despite the sentence, it remained unclear whether Adnan suspended his open hunger strike or not.

The prisoners’ rights group Muhjat al-Quds Foundation said that Adnan started his open hunger strike on September 2, demanding his immediate release.

Since Adnan began his hunger strike, Israeli authorities have imposed harsh measures, such as isolation, no visitations, and being transferred from one detention center to another.

Adnan, from the Arraba town in the northern West Bank district of Jenin, has previously gone through two major hunger strikes, one was a 66-day long hunger strike in 2012 and another 55-day long in 2015, protesting his administrative detention. However, Adnan is not currently being held in administrative detention.

Israeli forces had detained Adnan on December 11, 2017, accusing him of incitement.

WHO IS KHADER ADNAN ?

Khader Adnan Mohammad Musa (Arabic: خضر عدنان محمد موسى‎; born on 24 March 1978) is a senior member of the Palestinian Islamist  organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad[2][3][4][5][6] (PIJ) and a prisoner in Israel.

He has been held in prison 10 times under administrative detention, a procedure which allows Israel to detain people for periods of 6 months, each renewable, without the filing of charges or a trial.[7]

As of June 15, 2015, Israeli authorities had not laid any formal charges against him, but have repeatedly held him for reasons such as "activities that threaten regional security."[8] ................ Etc. Etc.

Wife Says Palestinian Prisoner Ends Hunger Strike After Sentencing.

Khader Adnan, an Islamic Jihad member, had been on a hunger strike since September and will now likely be released soon due to time served

A Palestinian prisoner ended his hunger strike Monday after an Israeli military court sentenced him to a year in prison, his wife said.

Khader Adnan has been in detention since last December so the sentence means he is expected to be released within two months.

Adnan began a hunger strike in early September against his detention but was given a one-year sentence Monday, his wife and lawyer said.

“The judge’s decision to sentence him for a year was based on my husband’s bad health situation as a result of his hunger strike,” said his wife Randa.

The Israeli army confirmed the sentence and said in a statement that the military court convicted him of having been an active member of the banned Islamic Jihad terror organisation, after he pleaded guilty in a plea bargain.

Adnan has staged protests during previous stints in Israeli jails.

In 2012 he went on hunger strike for 66 days in protest against a term of internment without trial, what Israel calls “administrative detention.”

In 2015 he went without food for over 50 days after another arrest.
