According to eye witness testimony, satellite imagery, and other pieces of evidence, North Korean civilians are treated poorly. Those who are sent to labor camps are subjected to starvation, torture, stripped of their rights, and some can be publicly executed. Crimes that are punishable for death are watching foreign dramas, stealing food, attempting to escape, refusing to abandon religious beliefs, or criticizing the government. It’s believed that many of these executions are meant to keep the citizens in line. Those that are executed are killed via firing squad or hanging; many of these executions are done in public.

Torture methods used in the country have been depicted by a former prisoner by the name of Kim Kwang. In the CNN report, he describes the torture methods that were used on prisoners and laborers. He remembers being chained to a bar and forced to squat while officers beat his chest until he vomited out blood. He also describes prisoners standing or sitting for extended periods of time, sometimes holding bricks or extending their arms. Those that starved ate snakes and mice, and those unfortunate to die often had their eyes and ears picked clean by rodents.

North Korea has on occasion denied human rights abuse, and the leader himself has been accused of starving, torturing, and killing North Korean citizens. North Korea shouldn’t be tolerant of this treatment and it is downright cruel to treat a fellow human being in such a degrading manner. The evidence is there and nations should care about how human beings are being treated. Sign this petition and condemn North Korea’s tolerance of cruelty.

Your signature has been recorded. This is a horrific Country to be born into. I have watched several films that were based off of accounts by those who have managed to escape. The things of nightmares.
