Incident recalls similar event in 2008, when three Kfir Brigade soldiers were filmed exposing their buttocks to a Palestinian farmer near Hebron and flashing the "V" for victory hand gesture at Palestinian bystanders.

An Israeli soldier who exposed his buttocks to Palestinians while on patrol in the West Bank city of Hebron on Saturday was sentenced to 20 days in army prison.

The incident occurred during routine activities by Kfir Brigade troops. In the midst of a verbal exchange between three soldiers and a number of Palestinians, one of the soldiers pulled down his pants and exposed his behind to the group of Palestinians.

The soldiers themselves reported the incident to their company commander, an Israel Defense Forces source said. After a disciplinary hearing the offender was sent to army prison for 20 days.

The IDF Spokesman's Office said on Sunday, "Yesterday an incident occurred in which an IDF soldier failed in his behavior and acted in a manner inconsistent with IDF values. The incident was reported to commanders who dealt with the matter."

In 2008 three Kfir Brigade soldiers were filmed exposing their buttocks to a Palestinian farmer near Hebron and flashing the "V" for victory hand gesture at Palestinian bystanders. The soldiers were sentenced to 21 days in prison and suspended from operational military service.

What a fool. I think I may be a bit too disgusted to compose a good comment.

I do not know Kit, may be it better to exposed their buttocks to Palestinians, then it is to bomb and shot them.

Palestinian Arabs are NOT jailed by PA or HAMAS for bombing Israeli farmers or for killing some Jews here and there. Instead, they get streets and stadiums named after these killers.

What a difference in mentality.

Thank you Angelika. Green star to follow.

Human behavior can be so inspiring and uplifting--so sad when so many make other choices.

If only IDF & Shin Bet agents could limit their actions to such non-threatening, non-violent action (no matter how vulgar & offensive, however humiliating or insulting toward the Palestinian it is directed against), instead of demolishing Palestinian homes; detaining Palestinian children/adolescents & handing them over to the Israeli criminal (in)justice system; instead of standing idly by as illegal settlers destroy Palestinian olive trees & orchards, and do bodily harm to Palestinian farmers themselves as they attempt to carry out harvesting, rather than intervening to prevent these acts of violence; instead of causing intentionally unnecessary delays & conducting deliberately humiliating body searches at checkpoints.

The IDF Spokesman's Office said that this soldier "acted in a manner inconsistent with IDF values" : given all the things that usually happen & are never labelled as 'inconsistent with IDF values' I'd really like to know exactly what those IDF values are.

Of course, I am being cynical & sarcastic about an offensive, repulsive act that demonstrates the degree of disdain, contempt & scorn in which a vast majority of Israelis hold Palestinians as well as the freedom Israelis enjoy & the entitlement they feel to behave towards Palestinians in belittling, disparaging ways ... but I am not being facetious, because the situation in the West Bank is far too tragic to make light of.

Racism is ugly no matter how it is expressed.

At least the punishment the offender received should send a message to Israeli society, but are they too far gone to get the message?

"The IDF Spokesman's Office said that this soldier "acted in a manner inconsistent with IDF values" : given all the things that usually happen & are never labelled as 'inconsistent with IDF values' I'd really like to know exactly what those IDF values are. "
- some of those "values" have been worded publicly several times before : " Only a dead E-rab is a good E-rab".
Fortunately NOT ALL of IDF follow this motto.

I do agree with David - better for the Israeli to show his ass to Palestinians than to bomb them. Maybe he would rather 'look' properly disdainful than to actually 'be' disdainful. It would be a positive sign if Israel actually stood by the statement made by the official...we will see.
