This has been known for over forty years. The leaders of all developed countries have always made sure to have impoverished countries around them. The manufactured food shortages are their form of population control and excuse for create conflict in other regions. It is a tactic created to foment instability as a precursor to war.

Yes, I agree with both Chris and Honeysucklebarb. I worked in social work for over 23 years and this country is full of starving people. Fast food restaurants stay in business because it's a CHEAP way to a burger for a buck and fries too! There is so much food thrown away in this country that anyone saying there's a food shortage needs to wake up, just look in the garbage dumpsters behind ANY grocery store. I could go on and on and on....

Well Scot, you sound a little ... mhmm...let me say... sarcastic (?), angry (?) or hard? When it is about the homo sapiens (new name: Homo greedyiens), I feel like I do not belong to this race of uselesss abusers. I hope next time I do not need to incarnate on such a class z planet where the most simple things are too difficult to understand for people, because there is always that dammed ego in the way. They build rockets, shoot at Ufos and can understand a little about quantum physics. But they are unable to act without to suck the energy of each other. This is a lost race as long as there does not come a major change.

The whole world is out of balance - there are starving people in every country, due to poverty, low wages, war or lack of locally grown food. And the blame lies with the Governments.

It is down to the Governments of each country to look after their civilians - it is the Governments we need to pressure. 'Food not Bombs' would be a good start!

I fully support all the humanitarian and charity aid being given to help the starving people, and as individuals we should do our part; do what we can.

But having watched the news today and seeing that it is the Burmese militia Government who is halting the national, humanitarian aid to its people, makes me wonder what 'hidden agenda' they have. 20,000 people lost already in the floods, and yet the Government are telling the aid charities that they 'have to wait' for their visas to enter the country!!

It makes me so angry and yet I feel helpless, other than signing petitions.

And the poor people of Haiti, reduced to eating mud pies to fill them up...who is controlling the prices of everything? The Governments!

And don't start me on petrol you know that Shell and BP made shared profits of over 7 billion pounds, just in the first few months of this year.

Revolution is the only answer.

If any-one wants to know ....
This is the way it is,..

Over 50%, even 50.00000001% of the human population, has to get conscious, as I keep saying, ..
Why would "anyone" want to save this sorry lot. They have to prove that they care,
and if you read the last few things I put up, you will know what I mean.
No-one, wants to give up anything, they just keep rapping off.

I've mentioned this to many people before, but I think it does apply here as well. Not only should we get our troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan and other places in the world - we need to
stop the death toll of our troops, stop the death toll of innocent civilians and stop the maiming of our troops and civiians. And, with the money we would save if we were out of this war it could be used toward helping the veterans with their array of issues due to the war, and also help feed the hungry in this country - and in other parts of this world.

Exactly how would you propose to improve the lives of the worlds poor without employing armed force to liberate them from incompetent and/or evil leaders ?
Leaving Afganistan would leave the locals at the mercy of the Taleban, who deliberatly destroy any schools and cultural instituation they can get to.
Not inteveening in Sudan ensures the Arabs can continue to starve/rape/kill etc. the negroes in Darfur.

Exactly how do we profit from crap like that going on ?

Care2 is leading the way, eating vegetarian/flexitarian. The average person can be healthy on less than six pounds of meat a year.

I do not understand alcohol from corn, and that is why I will never be a liberal. I do not understand how hundreds of millions of people starve while a few people decided to convert food into fuel for my car.

If I want to help a poor person, I do not need the government. I can help that person myself. I can adopt a child from a poor nation.

You are right the Republican Party - which I left two years ago in March - has become Fascist. McCain wants to spend eternity in Iraq, and Secretary of State Rice is no different.

We need real change if we want to change government, such as Ron Paul.

I am learning to live with less. If you can afford it, buy a hybrid. If you can afford it, buy solar energy. If you can afford it, buy a windmill.

I see people escape reality with electronic toys they do not need, do not understand, and cannot afford.

We want it both ways; we want illegal immigration at the same time the planet cannot sustain us all at this level if everyone immigrated.

I don't know - maybe the answer lies elsewhere - people will live on the Moon.

I have always considered myself to be a "liberal/progressive" person. There is a HUGE difference between being a liberal/progressive and being a neo-liberal however. Neo liberals and neo-cons are just the flip side of the same coin. Having said that, there is also a vast difference between an educated liberal/progressive and a UN-EDUCATED liberal/progressive. The un-educated variety does not see the big picture, because the un-educated variety still looks to the left-right paradigm for solutions, not realizing the left-right paradigm is just a big lie. Those who are not educated still don't realize we have a 1 party political system pretending to be a 2 party political system. People must recognize this is true before they can truly become part of the solution which would mean doing everything they can to educate others and help dismantle the neo-liberal - neo-con ogliarchy.

As to the issue of people starving all over the world, as horrifying as it is to accept, it is all part and parcel of the ogliarchy. We the people, the citizens of the US have been taught to believe we live in the Land Of The Free, Home Of The Brave. Sadly, that is the illusion. Those in control want us to continue to continue to believe this so we will shut up and won't rock their boat. They know if we rock their boat enough, their whole ogliarchy will come collapsing down like the house of cards it really is. It is all based on lies, propaganda and erronenous beliefs. People are starving all over the world by design. It is no accident, no twist of fate, no mistake. All has been done on purpose as part of their plan to depopulate the earth planet by 90-95%. Anyone who listens to Alex Jones regularly knows exactly what is going on.

It isn't just McCain who wants to spend eternity in Iraq. McCain is just a puppet as is Bush, Cheney, Hillary and Obama. They are all just puppets of the ogliarchy. Puppets to their "masters". The following film should be a real eye opener to many. I believe the truth sets us free, but only if knowing the truth causes us to participate in right action. Right action on the part of We The People is very much required of anyone with a conscience who wants a world filled with peace and unconditional love. Matters not whether we are liberal, conservative or somewhere in between. This is a human and civil rights issue. There are many aspects to the brainwashing that is pumped out over our mainstream airwaves daily. Many believe many things, many issues are true, yet they are really just part of the ogliarchy's desire to convince us white is black and black is white.

They have created one issue after another, one story after another, all designed to scare everyone to death. Fear accomplishes nothing. Getting educated, seeing the big picture can move mountains. There are many eye opening films available which can alter opinions and beliefs. This is so because once one opens their eyes, sees the truth and the big picture, there is no turning back. Want to know the truth about WHY so many people are starving, this is one place to start. There is much more to learn than the info provided in this film, but it is a start!

It sickens me what this administration does ,has done and will continue to do! we the people mean NOTHING anymore its seems, so we here on care 2 can take thing's into our own hands and help others, personally! when you make plenty of extra food some times bring a dish over to your elderly neighbor or bake some cookies for the single mom that cant afford to buy treats or have extra time because shes working two jobs for her kids, I used to bring a homeless lady some food that I had left over from our meal that I knew would end up going to waste, she smiled and thanked me,andthen I had brought her some clean sheet's so she would have something to cover herself with, which she would roll up and keep with her other worldly possesions, & not once did she ever ask me for money! but what comes to us at times for granted is held so precious to others so yes scott I too got the message and I am a firm believer in "paying it forward"!!

Greed Behind Food Price Rises - Development Bank Head

Mail this story to a friend | Printer friendly version

FRANCE: May 7, 2008

BRUSSELS - The food price crisis is caused largely by greed and speculation rather than food shortages, the head of Southern Africa's development bank said on Tuesday.

Spiralling food costs -- called a "silent tsunami" by the World Food Programme -- have ignited fury and a rash of protests from Haiti to Somalia to Bangladesh. Exporting countries have curbed shipments to ensure domestic supplies and tame inflation.
"These increases in food prices are not the consequence of food shortages, it's the consequence of human greed that is putting at risk the lives of millions of men, women and children," Jay Naidoo told Reuters.

"There are companies that are making super profits on this issue."

The root causes of the more than 40 percent rise in food prices in the last year are disputed. Experts point to strong demand from Asian emerging markets, adverse weather in some producer countries and increased use of biofuels.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said it would give up to $500 million in emergency loans to regional economies hardest hit by the crisis and double investment in the farm sector to $2 billion in 2009.

After four days of talks in Madrid, governments remained split on whether they should use export bans and market intervention to ensure 1 billion poor Asians living on less than $2 a day do not slip back into hunger and malnutrition.

"Trade measures or price controls are not efficient ways to combat the food crisis or food price inflation. It distorts the market and could exacerbate the situation in the international grain market," ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda told Reuters.

"... the best way to address the immediate difficulty is to strengthen social safety nets through targeted support for the poor rather than generalised food subsidies or trade measures or price controls."

Naidoo, of the Development Bank of Southern Africa, said on the sidelines of a conference on malnutrition in Brussels that governments and world bodies should take concerted action to control surging food prices.

Thai rice prices fell around 10 percent on Tuesday after importers taking their cue from Manila's decision to scrap a large tender held back on purchases.

Five Thai exporters quoted prices for 100 percent B trade white rice, the world's benchmark, at between $900 and $920 a tonne, free on board. That is down from last week's $990-$998 a tonne.

Calming nerves further, Thailand, the world's biggest rice exporter, backed off its proposal for an "OPEC-style" rice cartel. "If Thailand was going to set up a rice cartel to fix the price, that would worsen food security," Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama told reporters.

On Monday, the Philippines, the world's top rice importer, scrapped its largest rice tender of the year.

Vietnam, the world's second-largest rice exporter, said it was considering imposing a duty on rice exports because it wants to save more of the grain for domestic consumption.

In Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo cut import taxes on staples including "rice, maize, wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, powdered milk, cement, mackerel, chicken, beef ... and equipment necessary for production," according to a government statement published on Tuesday.

Traders said the fall in prices could be limited if Myanmar, which has committed rice exports to neighbouring countries, decides to halt overseas sales and instead starts to import the grain after being hit by a devastating cyclone.

Some of Myanmar's rice customers are expected to turn to Thailand for supplies after the military-ruled country was lashed by Cyclone Nagris. The storm killed up to 22,500 people and ripped through Myanmar's Irrawaddy delta, its main rice growing area once dubbed the "rice bowl of Asia". Thanks Scott, noted. Each of us could be rich in "Happiness", not poor and inpoverished owing to corporate thieves of capitalism. We have the technology to build Megaopolis cities and so much that I concur within the comments above. After watching the documentary, "The 11th Hour, narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio", I gained a wealth of education on past and present global society, knowing what we're doing to our planet, the devastation of major ecosystems is mostly caused by humans.

The term used to describe the causes to our current global crises is, "Corporate Economic Globalization". Todays technology has been abused and much of the resources used to build this technology is already outdated by the time it reaches consumers.

You buy the latest personal computer out on the market today, tomorrow we see hi-tech equipment to supersede yesterdays computer. The ugly side of this competitive market has caused huge amounts of wasted resources thrown to the landfill site and very little is recycled, rebuilt or reused.

Just in the last few months I have seen more advertising campaigns, building better awareness about what can be recycled and where to dispose (or recycle) of these used resources. And I say it's about time!

So yes, there is a food shortage and maybe we should tell the gov, "Scrap the biofuel industry, rebate farmers on losses and feed the under nourished poor society (not the poor RICH society)".

Lastly there is one quote that Robin Hahnel wrote I'm sure you will like and agree:

Recognizing that the current form of globalization is nothing more than a generalized downward leveling in which global corporations are extracting more and more of the wealth, power, and productive energies from communities and the environment is the right approach... And knowing that in every specific battle, what we are fighting for is merely the substitution of the human agenda for the corporate agenda is what can guide and sustain us.

Perhaps you may have no idea about the enormity of the things that some people consciously go without (in spite of all the freedom there is) in this "Westernized" world. Not everyone is rich and famous AND definitely not everyone gets take out on a regular basis. As for me, i am not one of the rich and famous, or to be more precise - i have to watch my every $ - therefore, the petitions are the ONLY way that i know HOW to be of help globally. I can sense your sarcasm and anger from a mile, and i'm so very sorry - if i could i would change a lot of things - but as it is, i dont know, maybe i should cut myself - would that change the reality for anyone???

Well, maybe we should be taking the case to the celebrities of the world - after all, they are full of it - mainly the money - which could be put into other good causes, other than adopting other people's children - not that adopting other people's children isn't a worthy cause. Yet, even after doing that much they still have lots left-over that could do a whole heap of good if put into the needed causes.

I'm aware of the validity of ALL of the good comments here. There is no real food shortage, there is a serious imbalance of food USE. I'm ashamed to have to acnowledge that America is a nation of gluttony. We overconsume and waste more than many nations of the world even have. I personally have always avoided waste in every area. Food, water, power, fuel, and I've preached it to my family from birth. If we, as a nation, hadn't felt the need to overdevelop our nation so there are banks and stores and restaurants or fast food places on every corner we'd still have the wealth of small farmers providing food for us. Instead we pay a hefty price to import food from other nations and many times that nations greed takes the food from their people to profit from selling to us. A shameful situation. If every afluent family in America declined one purchased meal a WEEK and sent that money to feed people in underdeveloped countries we'd probably end starvation globaly. It takes at least $30 for a family of 4 to eat at McDonalds....come one can't afford to give but you can afford to eat out 2 or more times a week?? And then there's what is prepared at home and wasted because people are too lazy to put food away...they let it sit and throw it away or throw it away because "no one likes leftovers". If we could just ship what we waste to hungry nations they'd be well fed.

If we don't wake up and realize we are a world family, responsible for the wellbeing of each other, responsible for the care of the worlds wildlife, resources, and land we're all going to suffer and the life of plenty will come to a screeching halt. I hate to say it but in a real food crisis many Americans today would die of starvation or turn to a life of stealing if we had to feed ourselves because too many of us are too lazy and unknowledgeable to grow a garden.

When we stop being a people of "me" and start being one of "we" abject poverty, hunger and starvation will end.

LUCKY ARTLADY -- You are SO right. The Money Masters are indeed behind just about every problem facing this country.

This quote by Thomas Jefferson is very telling: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826), Letter to the Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin (1802)

It is our FEAR which makes us vote for the SUPPOSED "lesser of TWO EVILS" ... the fact is, WE SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR ANY EVIL, LESSER OR OTHERWISE!

_ MADELYNN F.- Very well commented. A capitalist's food sobriety would be to forego a luncheon with the sexy secretary, though instead go to a Starbucks cafe to discuss their hidden agenda. My apology for leaving a knife like twist to this story, but this is true facts that rule corporate economic socials.

Favourably :) we have some good solutions though there's need for "hard to find" good samaritans willing to throw in a few hours each day to make dents in this food crisis. Growing vegetables in our yard will only be as hard as the people want to make it, though with a little help while socializing with neighbours, assist in the garden while planting seeds for each other. That's one way to reduce the local food industry burden and I do understand not everyone has a yard or a patio.

To create some noise around the corporate giants, spread the word about NO shopping at huge retailers and support smaller sized retailers in strip malls, local convenience stores etc. Walmart, Home Depot, Kmart,... how far do you travel to shop with these guys. Local shopping may be slight higher priced, though do the maths on how much gas we use to travel out of town (not forgetting the time factor in travel).

Madelynn, you are so right with regard to seeking assistance from celebreties like Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban & 1,000's more. I think that's where humanitarian aid is hiding.

Thanks again Scott. This is one fast tracking news story! :)

- saying you believe it, doesn't cut it,

- when "you", show Compassion, Love, and have Total Faith, for..

"Yourself", "God",'' "the Earth, and everything on it, and in the Universe"

Only Then,..

You are "God Conscious" .. and what I've been saying,.. is, and it's right on

the top of my Care2 Page, ..

- "God Consciouness for All" ..
- "Remove the word Enemy, from all minds," ( minds, hearts souls)
.. because its only in your mind. ( minds, hearts souls)
- and,.. Enlighten the World, .. to this Fact.

-it is free,

.. it is easy,... if you want it to be easy,... it is hard,.. if you want it to be hard.

... When this happens to you, only then, will there be "Heaven on Earth"

- that's for you, .. this was realized by me last June, 07.

.... when this happens(it has) to everything else,( over 50%, .. of everything)

- which, in my opinion, occured, Wednesday, May 7, 2008, ... to, ..

"Yourself", "God",'' "the Earth, and everything on it, and in the Universe"

... well,.. that's the day,.. I said, .. The Tide has Turned, and it has.

- that does not mean that, .. its Heaven on Earth, May 7, 2008,

... I said, .. The Tide has Turned, May 7, 2008,

......, IT'S,... UP,.. TO,...

"Yourself", "God",'' "the Earth, and everything on it, and in the Universe"

- to have total Faith in,..

"Yourself", "God",'' "the Earth, and everything on it, and in the Universe"

- for the,.. "Heaven on Earth" .. thing,..,.. to be a total reality.

... as said, a grain of "Faith" can move a Mountain...(MANIFESTING)

"God",'' "the Earth, and everything on it, and in the Universe"

... It is the Same Thing, ... As In, ...

==== AS ON TOP OF MY PAGE ====================

- it is my "Belief", .. it is my "Opinion", .. " IT IS MY REALITY "

.. Live it, .. Love it, .. Have Faith, .. and, " IT IS YOUR REALITY "

I wrote this prayer, .. it's true, for me.

- if it makes it easier,.. the words, ..

.. Father, Heaven, Creator, God, You, Me, .. are all the same thing.

- as in,.. "WE ARE "ONE"

- My Daily Prayer -

My Father, You are my Heaven,
You are the Divine Creator of All.
Heaven, will be on Earth,
When God Consciousness
Is the common will.
My Faith in You,.. Alone,
is the key, to the
Doorway of Heaven,
.. and forgiveness for all.
All my daily needs, will be given,
in exchange, for Love,
of all your creations.
I Ask, and it will be given.
Evil is only a thought,
I will Banish those thoughts.
I will Replace them with Love.
Only then,
will we freely enjoy,
..Your Kingdom ..
of Heaven on Earth,
..for all Eternity.
With Your Blessing's.
..So Be It.

Love, Light, Joy, Peace, and God's Blessing's

- Create your own Reality,.. Starting Right Now!

This what my "Angel Card's" said this morning, (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D)

1,- "Let your past go, the burden of carting your past around, has made you

weary. It's time to set this burden down. Keep only the lesson's, and the

love, leave everything else behind. You don't want it or need it, and it's now

2. "Time to let go. The sun rises each day, and it's the same with the

avenues in your life. See the beauty within each sunset in your life, and

know that the sun will also rise again tomorrow. Endings are merely the start

of a new beginning, and we are with you through each phase and cycle.

Freancesca L,totally agree, break down the government walls, lets get society run as for us,not for the greed monsters.Lay down our blueprint, and win hearts and minds for a society run by us.
Some of the current anger in North America, will though, unfortunately, be damped down ,if The Democrats get into power.
The progressive parties have always been a safeguard against real change. These parties (social democrats in Europe, labour in the UK,Democrats in the US), make things slightly better,sometimes..but they also defuse the actions of more radical groups.
For example the trade union leaders in the UK, have historically,at certain times, become so focussed on campaigning for a Labour government, that they have reined in their support for union members wanting, decent pay and conditions.I know this is true across many other countries too.
A number of decent, radical people on this site, seem to have all their hopes pinned on getting a Democrat President..Hell,thats always better than a Republican, but it's not enough..
Until people look beyond politicians to change society, then society will continue to reflect the needs of a tiny and powerful clique.
Hilary/Democrats aren't the left, and neither should we look adoringly upwards ,at these politicians.Murdoch wouldn't be acting less nasty towards Hilary,if she was a real radical.we matter most, not sanitized, safe and constructed icons.

This thread was one wild read. In my opinion, biofuels..., with corn is insane, since famine is rampant in many areas of this world. If you believe in coincidences, the prophesized increase in famine is very coincidental to you. I don't believe in coincidences. "Everything Happens For a Reason" lieu of free will, of course.

Serge v...., I agree with your comment;

"It is our responsibility to help these folks who are asleep, not all will awaken but we must still realize that even asleep they are still fragments of the source and should be treated accordingly, even the dark ones serve the creators purpose in the end."

Thank you Serge for this very important point. We are to bring truth, and try to remind others to awaken to their truth within at a higher level of consiousness, with compassion and love. To reach this higher level you must raise your vibrations, which can't hold negative or low denisty energies. Quantum theory, needs to be understood in every human mind. Einstein's mistakes were actually correct....

Quantum theory tosses out the physics of yesterday, which starts to dissolve the old paradigm. Many won't let go of the old paradigm, and so what will be..., will be. Compassion holds the universe together. Mother Earth is consumed in Fear, Hate, Anger, Revenge, Murder, Death, War and so much more darkness. Mankind needs to bring forth only the emotion of Love with their thoughts to project the INTENT of POSITIVE ENERGY from the HEART of Mankind into the world. I don't care, if there is a gun to your head. NO WAR. That will never bring peace. NO FEAR.

It is way more than getting conscious..., it is about "oneness"..., ALL in mankind remembering "who" they really are..., We are All One.., children of the Divine Source...I AM. We are God's Mind..., multidimensional of the creator, who are loved as the duality of him/her self, expanding the dimensions of consciousness, at a constant rate. I would chant out more, "Let go of the old paradigm, and look within to your "truth". Noted, and thank you Scott.

At every opportunity, shortages have been manufactured...if it's cold in Florida or California, there is a shortage of oranges or tomatoes. Recently acres of avocado trees have been cut down in order to save water, while millions of people water their lawns.

Give me a break. California is a desert. Since when do deserts have droughts? Since too many people are moving there to be greedy.

Grow your own food, If you live in a city, grow it on the roof top, on your balcony, guy it at a farmer's market. Pick your own. etc, etc. Get out of your arm chair and get involved. Buy shares from small farmers so you have a guaranteed portion of their crops.

This is a call for MUTINY!

I agree Tsandi Crew,

It's time the world reverts back to LOCALISATION ... NOT Globalisation. At least with the Agroforesty.
I've read articles where forests have come out of nowhere, "in the Desert". Expand the Farmers Markets outlets that are supplied from local and home grown markets. Tomatoes are not that difficult to grow, nor are potatoes.

one of our major problems with hunger in the whole world is that we raise billions of animals for food. Animals that we DO NOT NEED FOR OUR DIET. We expect the goverments of the world to solve hunger, yet billions of poeple world wide will not give up eating meat. If people would just get it through thier heads we do not need to eat meat, and we stopped raising billions of animals for food and used the crops we feed animals to feed the hungry, we could solve the hunger problems, drasticly improve our enviromental issues, have healthier people and also save billions of animals lives. I get so frustrated with poeple talking about the world hunger as yet they continue to contribute to it by eating animal flesh. If you truely want to stop world hunger, STOP EATING MEAT. Start telling friends and family, eveyone you know and everywhere you go start promoting not eating meat. No this is not a 100 percent cure for hunger but it would take a huge bite out of hunger and other world issues. If you are truely concerned with world hunger and not just talk than do something about it. Each one of us by choosing to not eat meat could make a dramatic difference.
Stop eating meat and get others to do the same.
According to the June 6, 1968, issue of Chemical Industry it takes 1250 lbs. of plant protein to produce 75 lbs. of beef protein, an efficiency factor of just 6%, or a ratio of 17:1. The corresponding efficiency factor for lamb is 9% (11:1); for pork, 15% (6 2/3-to-l); while the most "efficient" protein converter is chicken, and even that only yields 2.5 lbs. of protein for every 8 lbs. of plant protein consumed, a factor of 32%, or a little less than 3:1. Something they do not mention is another serious barrier to good nutrition in developing nations. It is a well-known fact that many of the developing countries are utilizing their best land for cattle raising for export to the USA, instead of using this land for growing staple crops which could feed their hungry people.

In Guatemala, for example, where 75% of the children under five years of age are malnourished, nearly 23 million pounds of meat were sent to the USA from January to November 1976 (Foreign Ag. Calendar, USDA, of Dec. 1976). At present, Guatemala has a shortage of low-priced corn and beans, the staple foods of the peasant population.

BOB—The meat people admit that the ratio for protein conversion is "only about 3:1." Even if true, what would be moral about even that ratio, in a world in which each year millions of humans die of diseases related to malnutrition?
