Thank you for posting, Cal. I don't even know what to say anymore...It seems inevitable we will exploit and destroy all environmental resources and wildlife. Beware: Human approaching.

Time for everyone to change to wind and solar power. Wave power can also be utilized.
Please everybody plant a tree with your next 500 butterfly credits.

This is a start. At least the problem has been recognized - now, when are the major powers going to do something about it.

I'm finding it extremely hard anymore to even try to make the argument for man as the most intelligent species, as it's this type of havoc we wreck to our planet and its inhabitants that will bite you (me)
in the ass everytime!
Thanks for the post Shaun.

when are the politicians going to stop paying lip service to the environmental issues and come "out" they are just hypocrits as all they care about is the economic growth of the banks. They are as short sighted as a bat, and don't give a continental about what happens to the planet and all who occupy it in the future as long as they remain safe and wealthy in their own comfort zone.

Greedy people are destroying this planet that we all share, I am so sick of all the Greed that people have, what is Money good for the day that you die, some people say "I leave the Money for my Children and Grandchildren" I say yes but its not you-you are dead, and you think that when your gone your family is going to be crying for you day and night? Let me tell you this a big fat NO is the answer, so you did it all for nothing!!!

However these Nations are the should deeply ashamed of the Legacy to future generations if were lucky to get that many. Sure Canada is one of the nations and it makes me sick, living here.

Another, "own goal" for the Human Race. This species doesn't seem to get it -- destruction of the natural world = self-destruction. I'm beginning to entertain the idea that humans are here to pave way for another future species because we certainly aren't gonna be around much longer at the current level & rate of stupidity.

Sometimes it may seem like the nation is interested in other forms of energy but I guess we are fooling ourselves if we think they want total independence form oil. They have too much invested in the oil industry. There may be concessions but my faith in the government remains as skeptical as always.

Alexandra, I was thinking the same thing. The individuals cannot make government policy, but we can plant a tree with our Butterfly Rewards. It may be a small gesture, but it is a positive one.
The Nations planning on more drilling for oil by destroying wildernesses is a very shortsighted approach. The solution is simple. Put money into research in order to enhance Air & Solar power. I think these clean energy sources can & will be built and maintained cheaper than they are now. That will insure a more affordable cost to the consumers.

Hasn't it always been that the most powerful exploit the earth for riches they can lay claim to? Then they monopolize them and it costs the rest of us greatly. They then make ridiculous profits while the rest of us suffer from diseases we never had because they have poisoned the planets. These companies get richer and richer and then are able to exploit the masses even more. We have a finite number of resources, and that goes for money too. The rich are always trying to find ways of cheating the poor out of more. The poor people starve and die off or fight wars to stay alive and the rich keep accumulating more money than they can spend in 10 lifetimes and believe by some God-given right that they deserve it.

There needs to be a heavy carbon tax to get us of of the addiction to oil. ......Yeah like that will ever happen given the power of the Fossil Fuel Industry !!! Oh well so much for the hope of a green future.

Very sad to see that the only way to get informed about what is going on is with the information from Wikileaks, And even worse is to see that the forces of greed are destroying the planet at an unprecedented rate.

Sad that the leaders of the arctic nations still are thinking in 17th century terms.MINE MINE MINE They sound like the seagulls in "Finding Nemo". This area must be shared equally amongst the nations of the world. Antarctica is a shared global resource. Why can't the arctic?

Now we know why Hillary Clinton was present at the Arctic nations meeting. It had to be an ulterior motive. We probably should not be shocked to know that the "arctic eight" will be fighting to get at the riches underneath the melting ice. It's doubly ironic because the fossil fuels they plan to extract caused the ice melt in the first place. Incredible but true! One can never really be surprised what greed can do to dictate people's actions.

I'm with Constance, the bad news is so endless that I no longer know what to say. The Corporations that now own the world (or act like they do) will continue to squeeze blood from the stone until they destroy our mother earth. Only then will they realize they cannot eat, drink, or breathe money.

Regardless how a political regime names itself: democracy, fascism, communism or whatever, we the public, globally, and our planet are suffocated by corporate dictatorship and the great majority of politicians are their willing hand-puppets.

Collectively we could break the system but this would mean that every person has to be part of it, be willing to make changes, endure inconveniences and say no to some luxuries. Even if it would be only for a while, our, I, me and myself world is much too lazy and the Big Boys know that only too well.

However, we who believe that we can bring about change cannot give up.

Never surrender! Never wave the White Flag! Fight to the end!

Well, this has got me spitting mad on Sunday morning. What is it going to take to STOP this power mad grab? I envision a future of a small enclave of billionaires living atop the one remaining mountain top in Switzerland with clean air and water, while the rest of mankind toiling away below in the post-corporatization Blade-Runner Argemmendon they created.
