Global warming could shrink the habitat of Australia's duck-billed platypus by a third, researchers warned Friday, with hotter, drier temperatures threatening its survival.

Thanks Cal. I have been here in Australia of a long time now and when i first came here to live in Victoria, the Platpus were everywhere along the rivers that flow through the farms, but now they seem to be getting rarer and rarer as their habitat is just being destroyed. The good news is that at the moment, they are very prolific in the forest lands up in the hills North of where I live. Healsville Sanctuary is situated in this area, where a river flows through and the researchers there say that the population is still growing there, so if only we can do something about global warming, before it is too late, these lovely little creatures might sill survive, at least in Victoria.. Hopefully!

SUCH A UNIQUE CREATURE DESERVES OUR UTMOST CONSIDERATION BUT WE NEED TO ACT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.

And whilst this species and other unique ones die off or are under threat the Australian government continues to have a population boosting policy of 2% and climbing....ooops sorry I forgot Julia Gillard has special information that indicates there is no link between species degradation and human population.
