Keystone Pipeline Doomed? Why the GOP's Insistance on Including It in the Payroll Tax Cut Bill May Be a Good Thing

It gives President Obama a chance to affirm his commitment to environmental and climate issues, and reject the pipeline completely.

A political strategist i'll never be..trying to wrap your brain around this stupid "game" both parties seem more than willing to participate in just leaves me thinking we'd be better off totaly cleaning house and starting over..but I just don't see what Obama's got to lose by killing the XL this very second.
He's not going to lose any republican votes, but he sure has really p.o'd alot of his supporters, who have drawn a line in the sand on this one thing.
It has alienated him from possibly more people who championed him than any other decision (or non-decision!) yet. Thanks Cal

Noted, thanks Cal. All politicians and the serious games of life they play are just that. Games to them, lives to we little people. Ex., attaching some riders to major decisions, like leeches. Some politicians forget they are actual people and May be adversely and personally affected. Food they eat, water they drink, air they breath, money accumulated then spent, And their very own lives. The XL Pipeline can affect all of those. The GOP, in general, certainly seem to act like they are a separate species of humans, or have a Force Field of Protection for their actions, around them. Perhaps Denial takes on major proportions in the GOP & like minded.

But if he rejects it, the repobaggers will accuse him of being against jobs! Repobaggers will just anger the voters more for their hostage taking. Polls show that people support the President on this and oppose the hostage taking, according to NPR this evening.

People are saving and/or making money by building their own solar panel system at home and it usually takes a couple of days. Or people buy the solar panels inexpensive-by shopping around and then install them with the help of a friend who is an electrician. Go for it.
When the storm come through there will be electicity for you and yours.

Thanks Cal. Whatever the political motives if the end result is the demise of this pipeline project then it is a very good thing.

Affirm??? shouldn't it be reading REaffirm... leaders all over the world are playing games with the 99%, so if I have any hope left it is based on the 99%!!!

Or just let the State Department kill it, as it has said it would do if Congress ordered a speed up in its environmental review. Course, I'd
prefered it ig he'd have killed it outright long ago, and his squishiness is frustrating, but I do think a lot of the Care 2 community is naive about this as anout a lot of politics. Politics NEVER is like tic-tac-toe or even checkers; it is more like chess - 3-D chess more often than not. Always has been and, human nature being what it is, always will be. If neither Obama nor State kills it, I intend to be arrested somewhere along the pipeline construction route. Hope those screaming the loudest now will join me.

I don't trust Obama. He is sometimes for and sometimes against the environment. Unless there is another earth waiting in the wings that humans can go to after we have killed this earth off, we must take care of this earth as best we can, not pillage and rape it. I would like to have hope but any hope that I have for Obama doing the right thing is tempered by reality.

Any of you old enough to remember the 70s? Line ups at gas stations, Arab Oil Embargo? So the Keystone is killed, how many of you know or care that the refineries in Texas that would refine Canadian Oil now refine DIRTIER (more sulphur, heavier) oil then Canadian. And sure cozy up to Hugo versus Canada. Israel bombs Iran, what is the first thing to happen...Iran closed the Straits of Hermuz, restricting the delivery of oil to the US and there you go back in the shortage last seen in the 70s. Rethink this pipeline or learn to drive a horse and buggy
