Is Whole Foods Sincere About Its Support for Labeling Genetically Modified Foods?

Is it possible that Whole Foods wants to ride the GMO labeling popularity wave while it quietly works behind the scenes to prevent Prop 37, or any other GMO labeling law, from passing?

Don't trust their stated position on anything! In addition to John Mackey's goofy denial of global warming, his opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act (including quashing union organizing attempts by WFM employees) and his contributions to Romney's campaign, he helped bankroll opposition to universal health care in the U.S., both single payer and ObamaCare. I live near a WFM but never shop there. Petition signed, thanks Cal!

Noted, thank you for sharing this important information. We all take for granted that those who are responsible for taking care that what we as consumers do not ingest foods that will do no harm, forget that these entities are owned by humans. Humans motivated by greed, not by responsibilty. Petition signed.

From everything that I've been reading, I'm not really sure. The only way to know for sure, is to grow it yourself. I'm working on it, but the system REALLY needs to change!

Noted & read, but unfortunately unable to sign as Non US resident.
Is there ever going to be transparency in food products again? Just can't believe in so much of the system right now.
Thanks Cal for bringing this more out in the open.

I have sent numerous e-mails to Whole Foods, and signed the petition today. I want to know what is in their deli offerings, pizza, soup, etc. After reading the Prop 37 wording, looks like that will not have to be disclosed:(. I've been working on making meals I can eat for lunch at work for a few days, so I know they are really organic, and, it's much cheaper that way, too. I can make a whole cake for the price of one slice of carrot cake, and I know mine is all organic! Hope none of those figures are true in the article either, that .05 or .09 GMO's would be allowed. Not one nano of GMO should be in GMO free!

Whole Foods 365 Brand is troublesome, b/c I believe the statement they make for those products is (sic), "formulated to avoid GMO's", which says nothing.

They are the biggest, and I am glad they provide a place to shop for organics. It's corporate, but still it showcases many organic choices. They do a lot of good things, donations, education, etc.. I do not find small health food stores around here anymore, they are either bought out and absorbed, or couldn't compete, and gone. The chain of "Sunflower(Mambo)", has a beautiful organic produce section, but not much Organic anything else. Local Western States chain,"Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers" has fine All organic produce that isn't sold soaking wet, and much better prices on many products than Whole Foods. I find myself going there more and more, to save $$ and still GO ORGANIC(what food used to be:)!!

Whole Foods balk of living up to their own name is foolish! They have the shoppers that will pay for Organics! Once a person gets used to the taste and quality of organics, used to Real natural cleaning products, "regular" choices lose appeal. Even folks on tight budgets can find out which foods are more important to buy organic(apples, berries, celery, green/red peppers, etc.) and strive to add those to their lists. As more food becomes organic, prices should stabilize, then with more competition, go down(well, OK, not much goes down but one can hope). Win Win. I'm glad to see that pressure from their shoppers has made them at least endorse Prop 37. Boycotts work, and many are boycotting the parent companies that own organic brands, too. I boycott many organic brands who are not committed correctly, vote with the wallet is what is understood. I look forward to having MORE choices of Organics after this passes! Yea!

Signed earlier, now noted, Thank you Cal.

The important thing is to tell the truth in labeling of GMOs. We have a right to know what we are actually consuming, and therefore we have the right to choose.

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
