Ive never known a child could walk around, talk, speak and their lungs be filled with water, Cassandra Jackson told NBC News in a story broadcast Thursday on TODAY.

On Sunday, Jackson had taken her son, Johnny, to a pool near their home in Goose Creek, S.C. It was the first time hed ever gone swimming and, tragically, it would be his last.

I had never heard of this before. What a sad and tragic thing to happen! :-(

I too, was unaware of the effects of 'dry drowning', until I read this sad story. I'm passing this on to friends who have little sympathies to this little boy's family. Thanks, Cal for this information.

I've never heard of this, but it certainly makes me question teaching babies to swim and letting them have their faces in the water. Thank you for the important information.
