While aboriginal children died of tuberculosis in the 1930s and 1940s, Canadian health officials tried out experimental vaccines on infants rather than ameliorate the conditions of poverty that sparked that and a host of other illnesses.

A belief in science to cure all things may miss some morality lessons for the church.

To me thee is no difference between doing these horrors to children or rats, both are very wrong and very painful to the ones being tortured. For once I would love to see the doctors that do these tests have it done to them. Does not matter if it is a European child, American child or Aboriginal children or rats, dogs or cats all are very wrong.

Since when do churches know anything about morality?

As the article said the Canadian government chose to go the less expensive route of vaccinating children against TB rather than the more expensive route of spending money on bettering the children's environment. TB vaccination's an excellent thing - and so are the other public health measures that help prevent disease from occurring and spreading in the first place. People need both - and in this case it seems the children only got a portion of what they needed with regard to TB prevention.

this is like a horror movie with children playing MD and RN - on dolls - except it's real and the children are adults and the dolls are true babies - anyone want to play doctor? what a nightmare!

Shame on the Canadian government for simply cutting corners to prevent this disease from spreading. It seems that now they are working on both preventive care for the Inuit because TB still exists.

Sad, shocking and shameful, the vanquished and the minority group was always exploited.

Like women and children, why is i als the Native peoples of all the countries made to suffer and die?? An when has religion ever been moral?? Self-righteous and arrogant, but not moral. Science is the same way - when it comes to their tests and trials they could care less if people are hurt, maimed or killed all in the name of science. Have to say there are probably some scientists that are moral - but where?? Noted with thanks.

This is a huge blot on the country of Canada. I hope in some way there can be restitution and I hope that this never happens anywhere in the world.

Thanks ,Cal. This is a disgrace to Canada, but I don't want to get too self righteous, we have done so much harm to our own Native Americans here in the US. And still are.

This is so sad, it made me angry when I first heard of it. No one listened to the native people when they complained of this type of thing. Disgraceful and embarrassing.

It's a shame for the "civilized" "first world", but I'm not surprised.

Scientists and large drug corporations have always been so focused on what they are doing or how much money they can make that sometimes I don't think any lateral thinking goes on whatsoever. They live in their little tunnel visioned worlds and cause some terrible suffering and mistakes.. I only hope and pray that we are becoming a little more compassionate in the world today. There must at least be 23,019,676
poeple on the plante that are trying their darndest to make this world a more compassionate place, as that seems to be the amount of members on Care 2!
