Halt the free speech of those who do not agree with you....that's all this is!! As long as it is something the Democrats/liberals feel is a threat to them when it is a personal opinion from a Conservative then shut down free speech. But...if it is something a Democrat/liberal says that a Conservative does not agree with....too bad..that's freedom of speech! I don't watch the show myself but I support free speech whether I agree with it or not and the day we try and shut down someones ability to speak freely that is the day we slit our own throats!!

are y'all ready to toss out the first amendment? he has a right to his beliefs and to state them. if you agree or not is your belief. just because he doesn't believe as you do doesn't take away his rights.
so it's time for the libs to decide do you want to lose your rights to shut up somebody you don't agree with? you can't have it both ways. nobody forces you to watch his show.

Just for the record,, this has nothing to do with free speech. It was business and he broke his contract. Just because the animal rights community sees fit to help rid this vile show has nothing to do with free speech. And if you really gave a DAMN about free speech you would have objected to the A.E.T.A unconstitutional bill that really did send the SHAC 7 to PRISON for free speech. Welcome to our world.

Just because these people have a t.v. show doesn't mean they get a free pass for all the innocent animals that they destroy just for the heck of it! They have nothing better to do than sit on the edge of their pond and kill anything that flies!
And the speech of the patriarch has just been the straw that broke the camel's back. I hold free speech as one our rights that should never be overlooked. It doesn't matter whether you agree with me or not. A person's right to free speech is sacrosanct. But, the hate speak such as this is totally uncalled for!

The duck guy is racist as well as homophobic.
He has the absolute right to say what he wants. He is not going to be put in jail for it. He is not going to be tortured or killed or have to leave the country for something he said. A Nazi, a Communist, an Anarchist, and YOU, all have that same right. We Democrats/Liberals STAND UP for ALL the people all over the World, under ANY government, including ours, to have that right.
But I don't have to invite him into my living room and listen to his drivel.
In the Capitalist business world, I don't have to buy a product or patronize a business, if a guy says something that deeply offends my basic values. You don't have to financially support a guy who says he's a communist, anarchist or socialist. I don't have to buy my groceries from a guy who's a homophobe or racist, or from a company that supports or employs one, or watch their show or their network. That is my FREEDOM OF CHOICE. If you WANT to support homophobes and homophobia, go spend all your money on Chick-fil-A and on Barilla Pasta and go to Russia for the Winter Olympics and support all their corporate sponsors. You are free to do that - I am free to boycott them and protest them. We both have EQUAL Freedom of Speech.

No, IT WON'T WORK to try to HIDE your Homophobia under "Freedom of Speech". We're not objecting to that Freedom at all. We're objecting to the man's ATTITUDES. His sponsors are going to LOSE MONEY on him. LGBT Rights seems to be the right side to be on, for business survival in the long run. Look at how much TOURIST MONEY the Gay Marriage States are making! and will continue to make! GAY RIGHTS IS DEFINITELY THE FUTURE. Business bottom lines will REFLECT that, for sure!

Good point, Catherine. A & E, being in ENTERTAINMENT, no doubt has more than a FEW Gay people in their top echelons and in their offices at all levels. DUMB THING, to try to take on Gays in the Entertainment World! Kinda like shooting yourself in the foot... or SUICIDE.

He has a right to freedom of speechn and I don't deny him that but with that right comes the responsibility to use it wisely and spreading hatred by correlating LGBT people with ills and evils like bestiality, drunkeness, greed, swindlers, etc. is plain stupid and just the validation ignorant people like to hear to justify their intolerance of those they hate thus perpetuating discrimination, marginalization and crimes against others and in this case that would be the LGBT community. Don't even get me started on Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal coming to his defense. Those two (Palin in particular) are irrelevant blowhards that will grab any chance they can to demonize liberals and those that don't subscribe to their conservative extremism and refuse to bow down to them and drink their kool-aid.

What has this country come to when a program like "Duck Dynasty" is a hit? Sorry, but there is absolutely no value of any kind in this so called "program". This has nothing o do with free speech. This is about glorifying a bunch of knuckle dragging halfwits who murder animals and should NEVER have been given such a public platform in the first place. What on earth has this to do with Arts and Entertainment? The same goes for Rodeo \Girls, American hoggers, Mountain men and the broad variety of programs glorifying hunting, trapping, drilling, fishing, and logging. Where are the programs glorifying those trying ti actually make this world a better place\/Are backwards, violent, homophobic, animals murdering jerks so much more important than the rest of us>

Free speech my ass, the guy is a bigot and a moron. There are many here that are defending his 'rights', right to hate speech is not a part of the 4th amendment, the right to being a bigot isn't either. I hope he chokes on his wad of chewing tobacco. Besides that we really need is a fundamentalist Christian hick tv show about killing ducks, brilliant, because you know it's so uplifting and all. It reinforces the unfortunate truth of the axiom "Just think how stupid the average American is, then think half of them are stupider than that" by my favorite philosopher/poet/comedian George Carlin

Anyone can hold asinine views and express them privately. However with every right there is an obligation. Hate speech is NOT Freedom of Speech, it violates others' rights, incites violence and disturbs the public peace, all of which are illegal and threaten civil society and democracy. To abuse a freedom is not to honour its spirit, it demeans the concept, sets a poor example to others and obviously has consequences. If you're not prepared to pay for the consequences of your actions, it would be wise to not take the action in the first place.

From a friend...

By now you probably heard about Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty saying gay sex is a sin during an interview. The gay group GLAAD complained and wanted Phil fired. Bowing to their will, A&E immediately suspended Phil indefinitely.

Funny thing about that. Phil was simply stating what he believes based on his religion. Seems to me Phil's 1st and 2nd amendment rights were violated. But that's ok when it comes to liberals. It's ok to step on someone's rights when they don't agree with you. Liberals only believe infringement of rights happens when you step on THEIR rights.

Funny thing about Phil. Their show, Duck Dynasty, was A&E's number one show. Papa Phil is either the top loved character, or right up there with one other. He's my favorite for sure. Phil is a religious man, ending each episode with a Christian prayer. Praying to God, in Jesus name, on air, in 2013, and yet it's A&E's highest rated show. He mentions what he feels, what he believes because of his faith, and he's immediately removed from the show to silence him.

Funny thing about that .... well known gay writer Brandon Ambrosino wrote in a Time magazine article, "Why is our go-to political strategy for beating our opponents to silence them? Why do we dismiss, rather than engage them?" He makes excellent points that all those gay organizations should listen to! This is exactly what I told them 4 or 5 years ago when I wrote them with my viewsir on gay marriage. I very nicely told them they would find more support from straight people regarding same benefits for gay couples if they simply called their unions something other than marriage. Their reply was that I was a homophobe and a bigot.

Funny thing about that ... well known gay writer Brandon Ambrosino wrote in a Time magazine article, "the Duck Dynasty fiasco says more about our bigotry than Phil’s.” Well, well, well, finally! Finally there's an admittance that THEIR views are the ones that are bigoted! Christians learned that you just can't shove faith or belief in anything on anyone. The gay community needs to learn from that. Political correctness no longer works. Just saying it's 'normal' and expecting others to accept it no longer works. I agree with Brandon, it should be used as an opening for communication, not as a tool to get someone fired.

Yeah, funny thing about all that. There's a couple of petitions floating around about reinstating Phil and condemning A&E for stepping all over Phil's rights. You too can stand with Phil by going to any one or all of the petitions.

Petitions like:
http://www.wnd.com/wnd_petition/stand-with-duck-dynastys-phil-robertson/
http://www.traditionalvalues.us/DD_p1.aspx?pid=ro312
http://istandwithphil.com/

These are just some of what all is out there. I've signed them all. I don't care who chooses what mate they have. I believe in equality for all couples regardless of sex. What I don't agree with, we can't have one group controlling what people think and say!

Whether I agree with Phil or not doesn't matter. What does matter is if you silence him for his beliefs, how long will it be before you are silenced for yours?

We just discovered that a redneck cracker is a homophobe. What are the chances 95-98%? Fish gotta swim. Birds gotta fly. And haters gotta hate. The question is whether or not the patriarch of the Duck Dynasty empire has the right to free speech and demonstrate to millions that he is a fool. I believe that the Constitution grants him such a right. So ramble on idiot.
