In order to legally operate a motor vehicle on public roads in America today, citizens must abide an astonishing array of affronts to even the most basic concepts of civil liberty.

It has become pretty incredible- the excessive fines, and the "power" of a policeman's uniform can be so intimidating.

Noted. This is a pretty scary article, but a good one.

Noted. Thanks for posting, Cal. So many still don't understand the 'mission creep' of law enforcement to wreak havoc on unsuspecting travelers.

This will continue as long as we quietly take it. We need to raise hell, protest, write letters, create and sign petitions, make our voices heard!

I've known people to get 6 electronic tickets while driving through France in 1 day from cameras - that is expensive. Having driven in the US, perhaps they could resolve many issues by ensuring people know how to drive, and not giving a driver license just because it's convenient.

Thanks for this. I had never thought about it, and I never realized exactly what has been going on! Not cool. Thanks for making me aware of this issue, Cal!

I live in the UK and recognise a lot of what is said in the article. Sometimes it seems like the idea is 'if it moves stop it, if it stops fine it'. Maybe Governments see motorists as an easy revenue stream!

Spammer and profile flagged.
This is what happens when you get so many people saying "Why should I care if they spy on me? I have nothing to hide." What you have to hide is NOT the point.

We are getting milked by our governments, and the big 1% get everything for free.

You have to consider why most people become police-- it is not about helping but COMTROLLING; If it were abotu helping, the police would want friendly cordial relations in the community where if you are law abiding and driving down the road you would not be afraid at the sight of an officer or patrol car. But most people are seized with panic at the sight of a cop and the "us versus them" programming does not help
