Police militarization in Ferguson highlights a disturbing trend in America.

\ Tea Partiers are off the hook is no one takes them seriously. They need their security blankets (guns). No one actually thinks they are going to fire off a shot.

I hate to say it. But I will say the obvious as well. That picture shows all African Americans. I'm assuming it's a mostly African American crowd of protesters. Tea Partiers tend to be white. So yeah, I hate to say it, but we haven't really climbed MLK's mountain top yet.

"Disturbing" is putting it mildly. :(

The title says it all! WHY? I agree with your views Ashley, about the African American haterid that has been obvious and blatant since Obama became our President. MLK-Jr. is rolling over in his grave, as every black man and woman, young or old, fears for their life each day they take to the street.

It is totally unnecessary for our local police departments to be armed as though they were at war. This is deeply disturbing to me. I try not to accept most conspiracy theories, but an armed police force such as we have now can certainly put down any civilian protest.

These are not police forces any longer they are militias and rapidly getting out of control.

Guns should not be freely available. The laws need to be changed.

The title here is an interesting one since the article is about the militarization of our police forces. Not tea partiers carrying guns to protests, which to be honest probably does happen depending on the state. In NJ that would not be okay for anyone. White, black or purple. I would also like to point out that tea partiers do not loot or set fire to businesses and personal property. So they are left alone to protest in peace.

I do agree though that the police seem more and more like combat ready teams. Rather than law enforcers.

I am not sure why the Obama administration felt it wise to arm our police with weapons of war that were made inactive by leaving Afghanistan and Iraq. Some I can see a use for others not so much

Actually, Congress started this program in the early 1990's - Bush Sr. was president.

Fascism is being allowed to creep up on us slowly by cowardly brown shirts. It's happened before.

Noted. Thanks, Cal. Well, at least it's finally being noticed. More people need to see how upside-down this is. In fact, today, I read that a school district (San Diego I think it was) is getting military equipment while their schools are underfunded. This is happening all over America and must end.

Has anyone heard of the looting of businesses again over these past two days. That is why police get involved and don't just let them protest in peace. Destruction of others property and livelihoods is not peaceful.

I think these pretend protesters who loot hurt the good people who are genuine. In any case it is unlawful, unacceptable and disrespectful.
