An AP investigation has revealed that athletes in next summerâEUR(TM)s Rio Olympics will be swimming and boating in bodies of water so rife with human feces that theyâEUR(TM)re likely to spend more time battling stomach cramps than time trials.

Must have been one hell of a tidy sum in that bribe. Rio looks more like a dump these days than anything. Poor people. That government is among the most corrupt on earth. thx Cal

Where money and "big business" are concerned, any major problems are simply, "a few issues" which are swept under the carpet. . . this is how industry works.

They should be spending their money on the thousands of their own poor people who have to live with this all the time.

That is absolutely mind boggling. The Olympic committee plans to make no changes, no requirements according to what I read in the paper today. Swimmers should just risk their lives? That's insane. Not to mention that the money spent on getting this event would have been far better spent on making their country liveable for those who are already there.

I think it's time to re-evaluate the Olympics and other large international sports competitions such as the World Cup (soccer / football). Labor abuses causing deaths in Qatar, cost overruns & health concerns (radiation, bacteria-infested swimming areas) in Tokyo, systematic corruption at FIFA. I am not anti-sports. In fact, until quite recently I was an avid sports fan. The scale of these events needs to be lessened -- perhaps venues that already exist should be a prerequisite -- instead of wasting hundreds of millions of dollars are new facilities and complexes which usually wind-up losing money over the long run. Just another example of wonky priorities of a decaying, "civilization."

Cal the honourable Dr.Budgett is either incredible bloody naive and stupid or he has been befriended by a wealthy group that stands to make a profit from the games

It will be interesting to see how many Olympic swimmers and boaters will refuse to go into the water. In my opinion, any sensible athlete would value his life more than a chance to win any medals! However, good sense is sorely lacking in the world these days, and I believe that is a shame!

How absolutely disgusting! Everyone from spectator to athlete will probably have to wear hazmat suits. '
Thanks.

Much as I have no use for the Olympics or other sorts of these games; bring them to Toronto. We have world class facilities that are clean.

We do not need any Olympic Games around the world. Play your sports at home. All the money spent should be rather used for the poor.

I agree that the Olympics may not sustainably use the money to the best potential, but it's still really good for world relations when all the world nation's top athletes come together to compete against one another.

What's with this Olympic's committee? Now it's left to the athlete's to try to get as many as possible to band together and refuse to risk their health, and more. To postpone the event until an acceptable city is secured to hold it in. To me, it's not worth any amount of medals to risk your health. This is a shameful, unforgivable, disrespectful display on the committee's part, and on Rio's also. Rio's problem should indeed be their's to solve, for their own sake, but, to make an agreement with the committee, knowing this, is immoral, devious, wicked behavior. Each country should support their contenders, and push for a postponement and ban Rio from any future sponsorship. The Olympic committee members should be fired, sued, publicly tarred and feathered. Thanks Cal.
