Protesters clashed with police in central Beirut for a second night on Sunday, as a campaign that began with demands to solve an ongoing trash problem developed into a major crisis for the Lebanese government.

for their health's (and noses') sake, I hope the politics unravel the stalemate knot...

There's got to be a mixture of responsibility between government and individuals on this one, i.e. everyone must play their part if keeping their area clean and tidy.

A religiously segmented government by constitution has little incentive to act against their base's wishes and the 1 million refugees are putting a strain on all community services. I wish the country well.

Millions of refugees are swarming in and out of the Middle East. And although it kills me to say this...littler is the very LEAST of their problems.

Most likely the 99 is a carryover from the time when Lebanon's parliament had 99 members--thieves as they would refer to them.

I hope included in this number are Lebanon's criminal neighbors to the North, East, South and beyond.

lol....I had already reported on this stinky mess last month.
Labanese Seethe As Stinking Garbage Grows in Beruit

I'm sorry to read and see it hasn't improved. They have a lot of refugees from Syria's war and that has to be having a big strain on their already troubled economy. I had also placed a rap video on about a serious situation of lack of jobs for the people in Lebanon. A very high educated society but extremely high levels of unemployment.

I believe that litter is only a trigger point for a protest that unveils a deeper discontent with the govenrment work. If the politicians fail to answer to this issue, they'll prove unworthy of ruling over other matters.

Each one adds to the horror of their plight.

Solve the lack of job situation by the government creating various jobs that involve cleaning up the trash and going green. Kills 2 birds with one stone, and prevents mass disease, destruction & lessens social unrest. Thanks Cal.
