Veronika Scott's brilliant insulated overcoats double as sleeping bags. But they've also created new jobs and opportunities for some of the homeless people they were invented to help.

Kudos to Veronika Scott, she continues to put her great and creative ideas towards helping the homeless. She does that so brilliantly that the homeless are now involved in the whole process.

The best part is that, having started out with an idea to help people, she then LISTENED to the people she wanted to help. If more people would stop mansplaining and whitesplaining and politisplaining and just shut up and LISTEN to people's needs, there would probably be a lot more needs being met.

inspiring young person! Why don't schools have projects and contests for students to tackle real problems, with scholarship incentives? You never know where the next idea will come from...something maybe so simple, do able may come from a child of any age. Who knows?

She listened, produced the right needed product, and it even aids the job market, including a few of the homeless. Something is unusual and nonconformist about this girl---thank God!! Thanks Cal. Great post.

Great girl, Veronika Scott. However, the homeless woman who "voiced dissent" and said “We don’t need coats; we need jobs,” was very ungrateful. Of course they need jobs, but surely the gift of a warm coat which transforms into a sleeping bag should have been received more gracefully.

Excellent. One person CAN make a difference. I like that the people hired are those who normally wouldn't be hired. That is the other trick in society, all the must have's before one can get a job. Well motivation is enough so work history education is not asked just come work and get on one's feet again. Wonderful. More would be employed if employers would give people a chance.

Veronika is a genius and a saint. She represents the face of real capitalism, namely, opportunity for all and bringing prosperity and independence to as many people as possible.

This is how things are done. You help people in need while eliminating some of the reasons they are in need. I remember a prayer that went "God, help me help people help themselves". That is true charity.

I read all of the links and I am impressed. Thank you, Cal. How innovative these people are in solving problems. I wish more politicians were in the business of solving problems for the homeless instead of criminalizing them...peace.
