All too true! Today I was at a Meetup, and the subject of military service came up. One of my acquaintances said that yes indeed our military personnel are, for the most part, used rather than deployed reasonably. And then they come home to a nation that doesn't give a rat's arse. We fight these protracted wars for the benefit of defense contractors and their insatiable greed. Wasn't that the state of affairs in "1984"?

"I didn't serve, I was used." said by a Veteran. Sums it up accurately. We have a shameful mess in this Country that the 1% are joyfully keepin - it works for them - and their sons and daughters will never see a battlefield, go without a meal, nor have to worry about where they will lay down to rest at night.

Noted...Vetrerans or returned soldiers as known here, get a very raw deal from governments who are happy to send them to do their bidding but when they return and cannot cope they are left floundering with no help and as a result a lot of them commit suicide. It's time they were thanked better.

❤️Thanking you kindly Cal for sharing this information ❤️

it is more infuriating that anyone, let alone the disgustingly "rich" Koch Brothers profit from war, human suffering, and bravery.

Veterans of all wars should be treated with respect. It's such a shame than living on a fixed income means living in poverty is acceptable.

Noted. Thanks, Cal.

Present-day wars are a scam. From the beginning, after 9/11, all that was really needed was a 'precision team' to go to Afghanistan to find bin Laden, who we were told was the mastermind although the majority of the 20 on those planes were from Saudi Arabia.
The 'No-Bid-Cost-Plus" contracts awarded to all the private corporations involved in the wars should have been a BIG clue to what was really going on back then.
But, since all this was allowed to happen, with nods from our complicit Congress, the wars expanded and continue. Does make me absolutely sick!
Then, to not take proper care of our returning soldiers was just the icing on the cake. And, as the article states, there is still an ongoing investigation by the Senate Finance Committee about the "improper relation" between Big Pharma and the pain foundation.
What a truly ugly and disgusting state of circumstances!

Thanks for posting this important information, I am sharing it widely with my friends who are vets. It appears to me that privatization of any government entity is done simply for profit for some government crony.

As per Lois' comment, I suggest a reading of "Drift, The Unmooring of American Military Power," by Rachel Maddow, as a full bore education about just how bogus our present-day wars are! And what they have cost us in societal damage.
Then, going back to G.W. Bush's phenomenally imbecilic capacity to call veterans "Beggars" one can see where the mistreatment of those who the Pentagon likes to call "Heros," when the Pentagon wants more money for the creation of more veterans, might have began.

Yes, we need a better VA, but contracting out is not the answer.
