It's a picture-perfect all-American neighborhood, but on Waterford Crystal Drive, just outside St. Louis, a suburban enclave is in turmoil and shock after the suicide of 13-year-old Megan Meier. It all began a year ago when Megan met a boy on the Internet

Drew, my good friend, thank you for posting this sad news..noted.....I have been wanting to express my opinion on this poor innocent girl as a victim from this VERY DANGEROUS SITE, MYSPACE.COM for awhile. I went there for 2 months, and the things that I saw, as an adult were just not for a child of her age to be seeing....I also had troublemakers bother me, and so have my friends..I sent my complaints to the adminstrator of Myspace.com because the content of the messages I was receiving was HIGHLY inappropriate. Nothing was done. They kept telling me that they removed the fake profile of these girls, however, I would still complain, I saved all of the evidence. I complained in total about 11 times in 2 weeks. They do not moniter the age groups there, nor do they moniter who and what they say to each other, you could be talking to the man on the moon, and you wouldn't know it. So, I went into my acct. the next day (after 2 weeks of complaining that I was going to higher authorities to get them shut down for such explicit behavior) and my account suddenly DISAPPEARED! Amazing isn't it?....not to me!.....once again, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITE FOR ANYONE, especially children, because they really are innocent, and they are preyed upon by these vicious idiots for one reason or another....this is not a monitered site, DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO GO NEAR MYSPACE.COM, I am really trying hard to get this site SHUT DOWN....it really has all kinds of crazies, and it's not good vibes....it's bad...
So, once again thank you Drew, you and I have spoken on this subject...and we both feel the same about this site...It is a very dark place for innocent people like this young innocent 13 yr. Megan who was harrassed and preyed upon until she finally could take no more......R.I.P. young lady, your in the arms of the angels....I will fight this site to have it shut down..that is my opinion...but heed the warning!....
Many blessings to her family and to all of you...

The mother involved in this needs to grow up bigtime. Her tactics used against this child only goes to show her mentality and just maybe she should never have had kids of her own...................Evidently she forgot she is a mother and mentor to her children.

I too would shun her...................

Mmmm, I don't really believe it is the fault of myspace. I mean, myspace is sorta like NYC, with people bustling about all over the place, all of them very different people and occasionally you run across the one with the negative intention. But, sadly their affect is much greater than the rest. Itís heavier. It makes people feel stronger sorrow than a dozen of the warm fuzzy intentions make them feel good, all put together. And, after the negative, the place is never the same; the place is know by it.

I consider my campus a safe place. I have and I do, but there are 26+ thousand people here, and one of them killed 32 people one random day. A lot of people blamed gun laws, some people blamed the University, but in the end, my philosophy is, if you stop what you are doing, the bad people win. You have to be vigilant AND live life. In this world I donĎt think you should choose. To shut down myspace, that's living in fear a little, I think. A lot of people depend on myspace. If it were suddenly gone, they would feel they lost a part of their life, and also it is a great resource to the people that are not so obsessed. So, it would be a major compromise in the face of a horrible act.

Myspace has it's major problems. It makes me so sad that people use the internet for negative purposes, but ultimately it is the fault of negative people. It makes no sense, that we can't walk into a dark ally and not walk a little faster. It makes no sense that we are not safe there. It makes no sense that we can log on to a computer in our OWN homes and be prayed upon. It is people that make it so, and it is inexplicable that they can do such evil. It is those people that we need to concentrate on, I think. And, to concentrate on them, I think we should be very choosy. Being careful to stop the negative without stopping ourselves in the process.

I think parents should be very wary of the world in general, because tragic things crop up everywhere, especially where there are lots of people. Itís is the young that suffer the most.

I totally agree with Bette. What this woman did to a young girl was beyond horrible, she directly caused the death of this poor insecure girl! She is a cruel woman with a vindictive child like mind!!! May Karma come to her and the sooner the better!!!!!!!

Thank you for this submission, Drew. I feel so badly for this girl. There's something similar happening in my life. Not from someone I met on the web, but in my personal life. Well, I should say, throughout all of my personal life, now. It amazes me how much people love the gossip. It may seem an obvious thing, but it's amazing how far people will go in believing anything so they can feel in the know. It makes everything difficult.

This is a very unfortunate tragedy which should be a lesson to others that sometimes what started as a cruel sick joke can have a deathly ramifications! wppm.org
