If you’re a regular reader of TomCat’s blog and articles, I’m sure you’re quite aware of the fact that both Ted Cruz and John Kasich have suspended their campaign in the Republican primaries and Donald Trump seems to have secured the GOP’s nomination. Or as the BBC analyst said last night on the 10 o’clock news: ”Donald Trump has now completed his hostile takeover of the Republican party.”

Hi Lona,

Have you heard that Trump is being investigated for bribing Cruz and Kasich to drop out of the race?

" Let's hope Mr Gaughan's analysis is correct." is indeed our best hope. Thanks Lona

Sam, I found there have been at least 180+ civil suits since 1983 and NY AG investigating potential criminal fraud with Trump Univ. and apt. sales in Trump Towers and one related to allegedly promising Ben Carson a position in his administration in exchange for Carson's endorsement...yet didn't find anything on the recent bribery investigation you asked about.

That's why I asked Lona if she heard about any such investigation! *wink*

He has the money, the motive, the opportunity and it's not beneath him to do so!

But he was accused of rape in divorce papers filed by one of his ex-wives.

Every Presidential election i have voted in has been a contest between who is least hated. One - no, two - of those would not have been (for me) if I had then known Jimmy Carter as well as I know him today, but I didn't - then. This presumptive contest may well be record breaking, but, as I see it, only in degree.

The most obvious reaction to me in analyzing the news has been "Gee, maybe Hillary can beat Donald, not with Democratic and/or Independent votes, but with Republican votes." This does NOT mean I am switching allegiance before all the primaries are over. It does mean that if I have to vote for Hillary in the general I shall be able to do so with more confidence that I had a week or so ago. However, I also have to point our that what Republicans do best is lie, and not all Republicans screaming about Trump today will fail to vote for him in November. If I said this election will be anything other than a crap shoot, I would be lying. Pray for us. Or whatever you do - send thoughts if nothing else. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

If I'm honest, Sam, that was the first thing that came to mind when I heard that Ted Cruz pulled out only days after introducing his running mate Carly Fiorina. Drumpf has had to spend so little on campaigning he could easily afford a bribe or two. But then my next thought was that Drumpf had offered Ted a place in his administration or even as vice-president to try and get the Latino voters on his side. And what do you know? Is Trump looking for a vice-president already? He talks to Cruz - and ex-aide is seen with Ben Carson's right-hand man. OK, UK's Daily Mail may not be the most reliable of sources but then there's also this from Young Conservatives Donald Trump likes Ted Cruz to be his Vice President if he Earns the Nomination. It looks like Ted was gullible and egocentric enough to take the bait, but I very much doubt that Latino voters are stupid enough to do so too. I hear they are registering as Democrats in droves.

And this is Kasich's story, Lona.

"But he was not yet ready to quit. Kasich had fundraisers scheduled in the Washington area Wednesday, and was on a plane at the Columbus airport when he had a change of heart."

"After having the plane taxi back from the runway, according to one source close to Kasich, he then called four of his closest friends, and said, "My heart is not in this." The source said that his friends then told Kasich that if his heart is not in it, he ought to do what he needs to do."

I hope that my post has made it clear that the thoughts and prayers of many nations in the world are with you, Joanne. We definitely see how big a threat Drumpf would be to the rest of the world too and we don't want him as a US president either. I'm sure that if he does, the ultra-isolationist policy he's promoting now will be enforced by others to protect themselves from his bad influence. And it doesn't bear thinking about that this man gets anywhere near the nuclear red button.

The map shows how he thinks. FORMER US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is spot on with her tweets.

Latinos that I know, are pledged Democrats.

I too, echo Mr Gaughan's hope that Dump Trump will lose the election!

Great post, Lona! Thank you.

Lordy, the only thing worse than Trump would be Trump and Cruz!! Well, maybe Trump and Palin.... or Trump and Carson.....
So, how DID we get into this handbasket anyway?

I just love this. Ryan and Reince are going to educate the Donald next week. I wonder if they seriously think the man that just singlehandedly blew the entire republican infrastructure into the same tiny bits he promise Daesh is going to be educated by those on whose conquered bodies he stands? Please. I want the man to stay just as he is right up to election day. And maybe election day in 2020, I hope he's up for a rematch. He's the best thing that has happened to progressive politics since Bernie Sanders. Yes, he would be a clear and present danger to the rest of the world. If we didn't have a Congress. He can't do squat without money and they hold the purse strings.

Yes, a great post. Yes: What JL said! His inconsistencies, idiocies, go back to his being empty inside; there is no center to him…nor any outer boundaries, just narcissism! Can anyone imagine the type of people this ass would nominate for the Supreme Court? People must vote blue, no matter who!

Arielle, I think the answer to your question is in a post by TC! The GOPigs are "Reaping the wind," have paved the way here through decades of less loudly proclaimed, but just as damaging, bigotry!

There is absolutely no doubt Trump is "inconsistent, untrustworthy, and unpredictable", and it is beyond comprehension he made it to be the GOP frontrunner. There are quite a few Americans who feel the same way as many other countries. It's telling when our government is hesitant to give DT any confidential information before he's elected President, even though that seems to have been the policy forever. Thanks for the post, Lona. Always good to know what other countries think of the current circus.

"He assured the relationship with Russia and China will improve. He promised 'a deal' with Russia, China will start to respect America's power. To combat IS the US should develop both a 'coherent plan' as well as become ‘unpredictable'. Trump wants to strengthen the army with 'the best equipment in the world' but also said that the US want peace.”"

Trump and many Republicans don't want peace . . . there's too much money to be made from war! And it is Trump that is unpredictable because he changes his mind all the time leaving others scratching their heads.

There is a good reason why the Huffington Post runs this Editor's note with Trump articles.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

Putin is just as bad. He'll tell Trump one thing and then do another when convenience suits. And China kowtow to Trump? Not likely.

Trump is bad for not only the US but also the world.

Interesting that your paper is called "NRC Handelsblad". NRC in the US = National Republican Convention.

I think we will be voting for Hillary unless Bernie pulls off a miracle. I hope the analysis of Gaughan is correct. Trump will destroy our country and half the world if he is elected.
