A Chinese woman paid over $1,000 on Saturday to save 100 dogs from being eaten during the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. The animal rights activist plans to rehome the dogs. Yang Xiaoyun, 65, paid approximately 7,000 yuan ($1,100 USD) to save around 100 dogs

What a wonderful woman! It gives me hope that not all chinese people are horrible dog-and-cat-eating sadists. We need more people like this woman! For pity's sake, China, stop killing all the animals, you can exist (as can we all) on other types of food (not that I think animals are food, they are not) Go vegan, for yourself, for the animals, for the planet. Thank you for the story.

I could just sit and cry all day long about this unforgivable event. This woman is an angel amongst us, may she be blessed daily in abundance, may she rescue many more and may the funds to help her multiply by thousands.

I applaud the thinking behind this incredible gesture but it's similar to buying a puppy in a store that came from a puppy mill. You are promoting their sales and encouraging more puppies to be bred in this way.

The lovely lady has been scammed because of her compassionate heart and has involuntarily has given the dog meat trader a good excuse for filling his slaughter house with another cage full of dogs to replasce those he sold to this lady.
I have just read an article where a trader deliberately tortured a dog so that compassionate passers-by would buy it. (They did).
The public must be made aware of's another dangerous slant on an already horrendous issue.
Sadly, as I see it, the only way to combat this trade is the education of the younger generations and not to buy/eat any dogs. If traders are unable to sell their wares they will stop this butchering. These traders are trying everything to continue this trade. Beware!
