A war crimes investigation would be appropriate.

Absolutely! An investigation is warranted. Adding Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice et al would be nice, as well. Thanks for sharing, Sam

If 'Butcher Ben' is held accountable for all of his war crimes, he would spend the rest of his miserable life behind bars. No such luck I'm afraid.

A majority of Americans believe Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be investigated by the FBI for nuclear weapons technology smuggling before being allowed to enter the United States according to a new poll.
FBI files say that Netanyahu was previously involved in illegally smuggling US nuclear triggers to Israel.

Thanks Sam for sharing.

The world is watching. History repeats itself. True Human Beings are yet again put in a position of having to ask another Human Being, to behave like a Human Being!
How strange and mystifying, that many powerful adults forget one of the most basic rules of survival that we all understand as children. "Don't foul where you eat"!! Common sense! The powerful can't be persuaded to alter their repeated offenses, by threats, pleas, rebukes, not even by appealing to their better, inner sou and senses. They have a mindset, a thrill that can only be had, with certain drugs, like power.
This human is "hooked". So, only "cold turkey", "drying-out", and having no "buyers" of his "goods", may possibly save the day .But, who could thrust that upon the most powerful in this world? Only all of the other most powerful figures, united. Savvy? ---Mr. President?
Respectfully, Janice Doe Banks

LOL

Here is the declassified FBI report. I don't know why the article linked to some "research institute" rather than the real FBI website, or why the FBI in 2002 would have consistently misspelled the then-current Israeli PM's name ("Sharon" was spelled "Shiron"), but let's assume for the sake of laughs that any of this is real.
http://www.irmep.org/ila/krytons/06272012_milco_mdr.pdf

The case was about the export of goods used in everything from photocopiers to nuclear weapons. Netanyahu's name comes up twice total, both times in the same sentence. Someone whose name was redacted (likely Richard Smyth) met with him. Here's where it gets funny: This was in the "Assessment/Development Phase" section of the report, where someone (probably Smyth) went to find out if Heli would be willing to buy stuff. The name of the Heli Trading Company person in the "Recruitment Phase" section, Smyth's supposed co-conspirator, was redacted. However, this was done by sticking paper over the redacted content so you can see the length of the redacted names. With the constant font, you can verify the length of the name, and it's too short to be Netanyahu.

Getting back to reality for a second, the Benjamin Netanyahu people talk has a very well-documented life, at least during the period in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Netanyahu#Early_life_and_career
Can anybody see "Heli Trading Company" or "Milchan" anywhere there? Of course there are other publications which "confirm" this story, like Business Insider ... which also cites the same "research institute" as its source.

I'd like to see the full survey-script which I could not find on the cited Google page. If a polling agency called me and told me about a declassified FBI file and then asked if it should be investigated, and I didn't have time to verify its story, I would also have said "yes" regardless of who would be investigated. As it is, this whole thing looks very, very fishy.

What’s fishy, Stephen is to expect Netanyahu’s clandestine activities to be listed on Wikipedia. One hell of a convincing argument you have there.

What’s even fishier is your total disregard to the fact that Richard Kelly Smyth pleaded guilty to the charges, that he shipped about 800 krytrons which are used to trigger nuclear warheads to Israel. Yeah, they have other applications. You may be able to use them, Stephen, as toothpicks too.

Richard Kelly Smyth did not abandon his engineering company and expensive house and flee the country because he was selling replacement parts for copy machines. Your attempts to infer that, is what’s laughable. Besides, he pleaded guilty.

Smyth knew that shipping the krytrons to Israel was illegal. We know that because he was denied permit to ship them to Israel in the mid-1970s.

But the undeniable fact is that those krytons were shipped to an Israeli arms trader, an admitted Israeli spy, who allowed the Israeli government to use “his” company to trade with the US. That Israeli arms trader was Arnon Milchan. His company was Heli Trading. Benjamin Netanyahu worked for Heli Trading.

For those interested, all that information is reported on page 10 of the FBI report under “Engineer Sentenced in Nuclear Trigger Case” here:

http://www.irmep.org/ila/krytons/06272012_milco_mdr.pdf

All of that was nothing more than a clipping from the LA Times which you’d think would be available directly on the paper’s website. But for some strange reason, that story is now abbreviated on the paper’s site. All the details have been removed—an editorial stroke of genius.

And as to your “If a polling agency called me and told me about a declassified FBI file and then asked if it should be investigated, and I didn't have time to verify its story, I would also have said "yes" regardless of who would be investigated.” You’re absolutely right. And that would have been the impartial, objective way to approach this situation. But you instead allowed your prejudices to taint your judgment when you found out who’s being investigated.

All I know is that black men in this country get arrested and charged on far less evidence than this!

Hi Sam :)

Two enormous problems here:

First, you;re running into the usual "conspiracy-explosion" here. If Netanyahu were really at Heli, that would implicate the other organizations that listed Netanyahu as present there in the whole conspiracy. For Netanyahu in 1985, he's listed as being the Israeli ambassador to the U.N., so I guess we should start talking about including the U.N. organization and every national government on Earth because they were covering for him. Okay, maybe the Assessment phase was before 1984, so he was deputy Chief of the Israeli Embassy in the U.S., so we should talk about getting the U.S. government to indict the Israeli embassy for this, as they were covering for him while he was really working at Heli, ... and also itself because the U.S. government is aware of everybody working at such high levels in embassies on its soil. Oh, and everybody else too because the embassies in D.C. totally keep track of each other. So let me get this straight: Are you saying it's naive to think the entire planet would not cover for an arms-smuggling conspiracy from the U.S. to Israel?

Second, that kind of secrecy is not how front-organizations work. I could go into detail, but after that first reason, I don't think it's necessary. I went into detail about the first one because "conspiracy explosion" is a much more important concept to understand, and generally not understood here, given all the intensely silly allegations of "false flags" I have seen on Care2.

Smyth did plead guilty and he did illegally sell restricted items. He was guilty of the same crime whether those were to be used for photocopiers, paperweights, or nukes.

All the information you posted was available that link ... which ran straight back to IRMEP, the same source I called BS on earlier. Stop taking it as gospel, or recommending that others should.

As for my impartiality, if the story linked back to an original source, then that might have meant something. If it even added up without the hugest case of conspiracy-explosion I've ever seen, I might have considered it plausible. It didn't and it's not. The Israeli PM has just about the most solid alibi imaginable during the period in question. Maybe there is somebody else by the same name who was at Heli. I don't know about that. Maybe there should be further investigation, but of the correct people.

What's a "most solid alibi imaginable"?? Certainly NOT to have a job at an embassy in the US, aren't embassies generally diplomatic territory and immune from prosecution? Or am I misunderstanding something here..?
Moreover, aren't embassies known as hotbeds for all sorts of dirty clandestine deals?

As for Mr Netanyahu, a person known for being notoriously non-compliant with law, I wouldn't rule out anything..

Hi Angelika :)

Embassies are generally immune from prosecution for all but the most serious crimes. However, the host-government knows exactly who works at them, at least in high positions, as do those at other embassies in the same location. In D.C., nearly every government on Earth would have on record the identity of the deputy chief of mission during that time, and the U.S. certainly would.

Embassies are definitely hotbeds for clandestine activities, but we can tell not the one described for three reasons. First, everybody knows they are hotbeds for such things so nobody would be stupid enough to affiliate a secret front-organization with an embassy so closely by having the deputy chief of mission (which is itself a full-time job) also be an executive of the company, doing both at the same time. Second, the "FBI report" (which I am still not entirely convinced is real due to the spelling errors and lack of original sourcing) describes Smyth as having met Netanyahu in Israel, not the U.S. It's really tough to hold two jobs when one is full-time and the other is across the Atlantic, especially if you're supposed to be doing it secretly and are a person of interest (as a member of a diplomatic mission) to the U.S. government. Third, if the embassy were behind the smuggling, they would have just stuck the krytons in a diplomatic shipment (whose contents cannot be directly verified), likely purchased through a front entirely contained in the U.S. so as not to raise suspicion of export. (Milco / Heli was known to be based in Israel, not the U.S.)

Whether or not Netanyahu cared about the law, the guy was on the wrong continent and effectively under surveillance at the time. There are a lot of things I wouldn't put past Netanyahu, but being in two places at once is one of them.
