Fifteen minutes after KeKe the African elephant died in May, the Dallas Zoo received its first fax imploring that Jenny, her lone companion, be moved to an elephant sanctuary. When zoo officials announced a month later she was headed to a Mexican zoo inst

Jenny should be allowed to spend her remaining time at the elephant sanctuary. Elephants are social animals. They need the comfort and security of their own kind. Sending Jenny to another zoo is cruel and very wrong.

The zoo guy replied to my email and stated that he's not all the thrilled with the sanctuaries, and that the Mexico "zoo" has better care for the animals, and acreage doesn't matter. Also, with the "zoo", she's on loan. With the sanctuary, he can't get her back.

He's a jacka$$.

Everyone knows that elephants ae social, family orientated animals, so how is it that Jenny is being sent to a zoo instead of to a sanctuary. Their memories being what they are, familiar facs make a difference in their stability of mind and heart. After the death of KeKe, her aching heart will heal better in a sanctuary than in a zoo, where she will be a virtual prisoner.

These ARE social and need a herd and family structure. She won't get it in Mexico. If life expectancey is 34yrs and she is 33yrs why can't she live out her life with a family??? Dallas doesn't fool anyone as they don't plan to get her back from Mexico. The acreage alone is enough to sound like heaven. I hate seeing elephants in small spaces and 6 acres just "aint" enough. Our Zoo is great but not the elephant pens or space for these huge critters. I'd like them to have a savahana like other animals with lots of area to roam. A swaying elephant DOES NOT mean she is happy, what an idiot. If this is a private zoo and she is OUR elephant why not keep her here at her "home" with friends. The people in that town sound closed mind, bull headed and refuse to concider anything else. So the elephant suffers. Zoos and sanctuaries have different rules to be judged by so of course the sanctuary isn't zoo accredited. IDIOTS
