A man was put out of work due to a herniated disk in his back. L5 S1. He was sheduled for surgery July 23rd. At his last appointment before surgery he was informed that AETNA refused to pay for his surgery. They said it was "experimental"

You bet I signed! Noted. Many thanks, Ruth Ann.
This has literally been going on for decades. Many years ago, I used to submit my mom's insurance for her, and they were constantly denying her applications as "experimental...will not cover." A real travesty!

I am not surprised, it sounds like a typical tactic to get out of paying. I'm sure all the health care insurance companies are doing this. I wonder if anyone has studied this to see how widespread it is.

Signed and noted. The medical community and insurance community make determinations that not one lucid human would make if we were put in charge of the decisions. They will pay some claim that is for a daily hospital charge thousands, but won't allow a person to keep functioning and supporting their family. Ridiculous! There need to be penalties for this type of behavior.
