Unfortunately our family suffered such a tragedy. My niece, a mother of 4, was speaking on her cellphone and stepped into the street against a red light and was hit by a minibus. She is in a coma which she will never come out of. So please stop talking when crossing the street.

People think they can multitask, but the reality is NO ONE can. All we are capable of is switching between tasks.

In the time it takes you to look both ways, a car can run you over. That's why you should look BEFORE you cross, not while you cross. You can't look effectively while talking about something else.

Two great solutions to improve pedestrian safety:
(1) put the person on hold, cross, and start talking again.
(2) finish the conversation on the sidewalk and then cross the street.

"Distracted pedestrian" is really an inexcusable reason for a car crash to occur. Preventable accidents claim a far greater share of hospitals' resources than they should.

Noted...I have a mobile phone but it hardly ever leaves my house. Sometimes I remember to take it but I never answer it, just take it as an emergency to ring for help if needed. I'm very sorry to hear this tragedy that has happened to your dear niece. Must be distressing beyond belief. God Bless you and family.

❤️Thanking you kindly David for sharing this information ❤️

I don't need a study to know that using a phone when crossing the street increases the danger
