Boko Haram, which means 'Western Education is Sinful', claimed responsibility for the attack, confirming it was done to punish youngsters for assisting the army in fighting against Orthodox Muslim terrorism that has killed hundreds in the region

How much longer must this go on until Obama and his cabal of Islamophiles calls this what it is - Muslim Terrorism. He and his administration has been caught spying on millions of US citizens, BUT order the security services to ignore Muslims and suspected Muslim terrorists! There is a message here.

These Islamists in Nigeria (as elsewhere around the world) have murdered hundreds of Christians to drive them out of northern Nigeria so they can establish another Islamic Sharia state in obedience to their vengeful god of war and hate and nothing is said. But if one person threatens to burn a Qur'an Obama, leaders and the media rage. Something is wrong here.

Thanks for posting this. We wouldn't read it on Care2 Daily Causes.

if this happened in the west, it'd be all over the media. tragedies and crimes of this nature in 3rd world countries just don't seem to register. i fear when they do, it'll be too late to stem a tide of unspeakable horror.

If the Israeli army, accidently kills a child in a retailation bombing raid, the media is all over it. Twenty two children are shot down in Nigeria, and this is the first I have heard of it.

Sadly, there is this type of murder of innocent Christians in Nigeria and elsewhere by Muslims EVERY DAY. The world does nothing. We are owned by Arab oil countries. Governments and NGOs like Human Rights Watch who are on the dole or in debt to Arab oil will not stand up to their sugar daddies and the murder goes on. Shameful. Petitions should be started, but I would imagine that Care2 probably wouldn't let them last long.

The lives of young Christian children seem to count for very little in this crazy world.

When I was a very young girl, I remember seeing those “War is not for Children” bumper stickers. The bumper stickers were designed for influencing the American public against the Vietnam Police Action now known as the Vietnam War.

All through human history, mankind has been kidnapping children and forcing them to fight on sides they do not represent or share the same ideologies with and in wars they do not even understand!!!

But, then, the mental mode or mindset used for fighting wars is somewhere in the Insanity Spectrum, meaning we take the once innocent, sound-minded children and bent or alter their minds into understanding or relating to insanity!!!

After proofreading this comment, this realization has become extremely discomforting to me!!!

The Boko Haram has found a horrible way to punish the families of Nigerians who would oppose Islamic rule. It's hard to imagine fighting against a force that so pointedly takes the lives of children for impact and yet it seems rebellion against these militant Islamists is coming direct from the youth of Nigeria. While the cost to life is devastating, I feel some hope for the people of Nigeria if their children are ready to rise and protect their way of life. These murders committed by Boko Haram may very well have the opposite effect from that which was intended. The accumulation of loss and oppression has ever ignited the flames of rebellion and as the Boko Haram proudly claim credit for these atrocities, the people of Nigeria will know exactly where justice should be meted out. There are kind and good worshipers of Islam, sadly we only see and recognize the violent terrorists. Just as Christianity has decimated cultures and individuality throughout history, Islam has its own fair share of conversion madness. Generalizing people in hatred never works out well and religion rarely has capacity to see outside its own message to the truth that all life contains divinity.

You make a good point Christina about the hope that normal people will get fed up with the hate mongering Orthodox Muslims like Boko Haram etc, but they don't hesitate to murder and bomb to meet their aims. Herein is where you are misguided.

There have been so'called Christians over the centuries who have done terrible things, BUT the difference here is that Mohammed and Islam DO teach killing non-Muslims, terrorizing them and forcing people to convert (just ask the 270 million estimated murdered over the past 1400 years during the spread of this 'religion of peace and tolerance' which only happens when everyone submits to Sharia law and accepts their inferior status to Islam, or in the case of 'pagans', converts or dies, their only choice.)

Jesus, nor any other religious leader ever taught violence, but only love of even enemies and to turn the other cheek if struck, where Mohammed taught the exact opposite of all that Jesus taught. Mohammed's earlier Meccan verses in the Qur'an are much nicer but then he moved to Medina and had a gathering of thugs following him and he became a warlord, bandit and mass murderer spreading his new political, quasi-religion by the sword and the verses in the Qur'an then become harsh, full of hatred for non-Muslims, violent and bigoted, and the abrogate, or cancel, all the earlier nicer verses.

The Qur'an is hard to follow and doesn't make much sense, but much of it was lost and it isn't written in chronological order. Even some verses in a surah are from different times. So what you read in surah (chapter) one isn't the first written. Surahs 5 and 9, two of the most hateful and violent of all, were the last two written.

Few Muslims have even read the Qur'an, let alone the hadith, the sayings and actions of Mohammed. Many of them couldn't care less about their religion any more than the average Christian or Jew, and many of them want to believe their religion teaches good things. BUT Islam is the only religion that commands the killing of those who criticize or leave it (like the mafia) and those who don't belong to it. It is also the only one that does NOT teach the Golden Rule (do unto others...) except for other Muslims.

You make a common mistake in believing, as most westerners do, that all religion teaches the same things. But Islam does not.

I'm afraid it's naive to expect much resistence from the Nigerians who are being cowed into servitute for Boko Haram. After all, Islam means SUBMISSION!

So sad that this is happening. Thanks for the article Rob and Jay and thanks for your insight to this religion. After I started researching this just a few years ago from encouragement of a friend, I couldn't believe this was ever deemed the "religion of peace", and I don't see how Islam can ever evolve.
