Such a tragedy that Christians, Druze and Alawaites are being ethnically cleansed by the Saudi-Muslim Brotherhood backed Orthodox Muslim 'rebels' in their bid to create another Islamic Sharia state and Obama, again, is using US taxpayer millions to help them do it despite the genocide against these people.

Apparently only Sunni Muslims can be considered victims but no one else gets any compassion at all, least of all from Obama and his pro-Islamist/Saudi/Muslim Brotherhood administration, as he's proved time and time again. He has proven which side he's on.

Where is the outrage in the western media and from its supposed leaders, even so-called 'Christian' ones, over the persecution of Christians and others throughout the Muslim occupied lands? It is going on daily and no one seems to care. But let some goofball threaten to burn a Qur'an and they all come out in hysterical rage over that. What screwed up values our 'leaders' have. No wonder fewer and fewer people in the West have any faith in their institutions, including the ignorant media. I certainly have none.

When I read something like this (all to often) I am at a loss for words, much like the western media and governments, but for an entirely different reason

Why do they keep calling the Muslim Brotherhood rebels? There are very few left, now mainly external Islamists determined to take yet another country for a blighted and corrupt way of life. I disliked Assad and his behaviour but at least the Christians had a reasonable quality of life there.

This is very, very sad!

I used to believe that the Catholic clergy and other Christian leaders were spared or left alone during wars. However, last year, I read that the concentration camps scattered throughout Europe during World War II contained almost all the European Catholic clergy.

I grew up knowing that many Catholic nuns spent years in Japanese concentration camps. Being a Veteran and using the VA System for specialty care services for rheumatoid arthritis, I also learned that the VA System cares for some Catholic clergy during one of my visits. I witnessed a Catholic nun and a WWII veteran visiting the Gynecology Clinic in the Little Rock, Arkansas, VA System.

I also shared the article on Facebook!

On second thought and while on another thinking tangent, I wanted to share something.

I witnessed the nun using the VA system around sixteen years ago.

Nowadays, in America, I hardly see dressed nuns or priests in public. She was fully dressed in her light-colored habit and nun dress suit attire—the same color that Sally Field wore in the Flying Nun series; however, certainly not the same style.

When I was a child, I saw lots of priests and nuns in their full attire. I was born in a Catholic unwed-mothers home. While living in Moss Beach, I lived across the street to a Catholic vacation/retreat house. Every weekend, different clergy members would stay at the house. They would arrive in their church attire and, around thirty minutes later, they would be fully changed into civilian clothes and walking the beach’s shoreline and gathering seashells. During High school, I used to ride the school bus pass a Catholic convent. I could see over the convent’s walls and see the nuns moving around busy about their business.

Unfortunately, nowadays, I never see Catholic clergy in church attire. I wonder if our United States government passed legislation prohibiting the clergy from being seen publicly in the church attire.

In the old days, whether Catholic or not, I know that most people would behave better in front of and shortly after encountering the Catholic clergy. They had a tendency of awakening an individual’s social conscience and evoking better human behavior!

Several decades ago, there was less road rage, especially after passing and seeing a station wagon of dressed nuns in the adjoining lane! That was when America really was a kinder, gentler nation!

Allan, but the problem is society wide. Just look at the total lack of interest an article like this gets from readers on Care2. Now, if it were about an imam being killed by Christians or Buddhists or Aliens it would be on Care2's Daily Causes Newsletter and generate hundreds of outraged comments, wouldn't it. But the genocide that is going on daily across the Muslim ruled world against Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists, Hindus, Alawaites, Druze and all Muslims considered to be heretics, gets almost no attention even from most Christian leaders. It is mind boggling, but the same blind appeasement and denial was done by the same people with the Nazis and their ethnic cleansing and genocide in the 1930s. Churchill was even called a bigot and condemned by the ruling elite and media for daring to call the hate and murder what it was. Where is another Churchill now that we need him or her?

Thank you Rob and J. for posting this important story. Oppression of and terrorism against non-Muslims is rampant in Muslim countries, along with rape, torture and murder, all because they are justified in Islam as part of the effort to subjugate the world under Islamic self-proclaimed superiority. That is bad, but the reaction of the West in ignoring it is disgusting. Our respective Western countries go crazy over any report of anything against a Muslim, even if the report is unsubstantiated and proven false, but when it comes to Muslim persecuting Christians, Jews, Hindus or any other non-Muslim, you can hear a pin drop.

When the real face of Islam is shown, in this case in Syria by the "rebels", people turn their face away so as not to violate the mantra "Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance." To face it would mean they would have to face the true nature of Islam, admit they were wrong about Islam and have to declare that Islam is at war with democracy. So-called freedom-loving nations rather millions of innocent Christians, Hindus, etc. be terrorized than to admit they are wrong about Islam being peaceful.

Yes Rob and J, this is similar to dealing with Hitler and Communism. People didn't want to believe that people like Hitler and Stalin would be capable of such evil, and those ideologies aren't even religion-based. With the belief that all religions teach the same thing to be good to others, people are in denial over the true evil nature of Islam. They would have to admit that nearly 2 billion people are deceived, that Muhammad was a terrorist, rapist, torturer and murderer. For many people that is too much to bear, and they would rather little Muslim girls get their genitals mutilated, Muslim females get honor killed, non-Muslims like Christians in Muslim lands be raped, treated like semi-slaves, tortured and murdered, than to admit Islam is evil. Muslims are evil for committing such atrocities, and their Western apologists are just as evil if not worse for looking the other way.

sorry if i sound a bit harsh here ...

"rebels"? "militants"? "islamists"? these and other terms are all euphemisms for TERRORISTS, who have managed to hijack our terminology as a ploy to lull us into believing their behaviour can somehow be justified.

the violent forms of what amounts to apartheid practised in almost all muslim countries is virulent and extreme, and this is a small example of it. let hose who would rather ride on their anti-semitic prejudices, and point their fingers at israel, take careful note. israel is not the problem, we are, by failing to be commit to any kind of solution.

The Qur'an has many verses devoted to hatred of infidels, people of the book, especially Jews and Christians.

Islam has a special hatred for non-Muslims or Muslim men towards Muslim women, or Sunnis towards the Shia or Achmadiyyah. This is an ideology that has as its core a nuclear reactor fueled by hatred.

No one should be surprised, saddened yes, by those who are targeted for their religions beliefs, that people in previously relative safety fear for their lives as they are chopped down right and left.

Those of us who have been following these issues for several years are not surprised, because this has actually been going on for some time, it has gotten worse and will continue to do so. The Western media has largely ignored it. Both in Europe and in the States, the media ignores the plight of Christians. Only Muslims are allowed to be victims, and the perverse majority of perpetrators are Muslims. But it seems that our government and leaders will only speak out for the rights of Muslims. They are deaf to the cries and pleas of Coptic Christians and other minorities who are being slaughtered.

While the vast part of the Middle East used to be Christian, Islam has taxed, persecuted, murdered and otherwise ethnically cleansed what used to be a plurality of faiths.

Make no mistake about it: Islamic leaders have said over and over that they intend to make every last inch of earth under the domain of Islam and Sharia, and the Muslim Brotherhood, that has infiltrated both the Bush and the present administrations has many multimodal methods of doing it here.

No one is safe from this pernicious, totalitarian, blood-lusting religion of the Perpetually Offended.

So sad - but these morons kill with impunity and get away with it. I agree with Stan - let us stay away Syria and any conflict like it.......let them annihilate each other....eventually we mighty get some semblance of peace in this tragic world.

islam is by its very nature a murder machine where the threat of death is used to maximum effect ,
I often ask myself how it is that sentient beings could possibly follow a desert bandit who was a thief, murderer, torturer, rapist with absolutely no moral compass and regard him as the perfect example for mankind to follow
Sorry -- obviously sentient was a bad choice of word

Unnikrishnan, you make a very good point. The mainstream media and our cowardly leaders don't even want to mention Islam, Muslims, Islamist etc in the daily terror campaign being waged in accordance with the war god Allah's commands for fear of offending Muslims and causing more violence and death, yet they don't mind using 'Buddhist', 'Hindu', 'Israel' or 'Christian' in the same way they refuse to use Muslim.

The media and our leaders never utter a word about the ethnic cleansing and terrorizing of Buddhists in Buddhist Thailand by Muslim jihadists beheading little kids to terrorize the Buddhists into leaving southern Thailand so they can set up another hatefilled Islamic Sharia state, nor the ethnic cleansing of Buddhists in Bangladesh along the Burmese border nor the destruction and/or closing of Buddhist temples and over 300 Christian churches in 'moderate' (once Buddhist) Indonesia, do they? No.

No one in the media or among our leaders cares a whit about anything but Muslim victims, even when those 'victims' are themselves the real victimizers of others. The genocide of and ethnic cleansing of all minorities in Muslim occupied lands (all once Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish or Christian before the Muslim invasions, occupations and destruction of those more advanced civilizations - just look at Afghanistan which was once a thriving, progressive and tolerant Buddhist land before Islam came and it has been darkness there ever since) is going on every day and no one says a word against it.

But let just one person threaten to burn a Qur'an (Mohammed's 'Mein Kampf' with more hatred toward Jews than in that infamous book of Hitler's, but Hitler didn't claim that his was dictated from his deity, though he said he did nothing without his deity's guidance, so Nazism should be a religion and get all the same deference as Islam does) and all the media and leaders come out screaming in outrage.

But last year when a group of Christian leaders came from the Middle East to beg Obama to intervene to stop the genocide against their people he refused to even meet with them! His side has been clearly shown and it is not on our side.

The biggest crime is that the numerous atrocities like this committed by the rebels in Syria are unreported in the media, whilst our governments provide weapons and training to these thugs.
