Georgian - Stephenville,Newfoundland,Canada: These death scenes, of course, catch people's attention. And given people's loveable, huggable, and almost kissable attitude towards seals, it's easy to see how animal lovers get squeamish and then potentially

Newfoundland and Labrador is a Beautiful place. Not All people there kill Seals. Governments make decisions that are not supported by all Canadians, just like the United States and Europe, etc..Just something to keep in mind. Peace.

It seems our world has become a world of greed, not survival but greed. Any creature that is in the way or the object needed to accomplish that greed is just an object to be ignored or utilized. No price is too high for it or them to pay in order to further the perpetuator. Look at Iraq and Palestine and Darfur and ????

This proves how sick and twisted humans really are! There is truly no hope for this planet as long as so many people think it is their right to torment, torture and murder innocent creatures. Sad that in destroying ourselves, our species insist on detroying everything else, too.
Noted and voted with sadness.

Please see this important petition from the EU sympathetic to slaughtered seals! Get busy and sign NOW! Then send it to EVERYONE – including Canadian officials!

https://community.hsus.org/campaign/protectseals_pledge_challenge

**
You can even raise money to help protect baby seals from the cruel commercial harp seal slaughter “hunt” just by playing the TRIVIA game!
EVERYBODY PLEASE GET THIS ON YOUR WEBSITES AND PAGES!

http://www.care2.com/news/member/366153879/708708

**
MEANWHILE, FROM LONDON, A hard-hitting public awareness campaign to help protect seals, whales and elephants is being run by The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Animals on the Underground. . Members of the public are being asked to send a text message to help protect these threatened or endangered species.

Tens of thousands of endangered elephants continue to be threatened by the illegal ivory trade, over a quarter of a million seals are killed annually in Canada’s cruel and unsustainable seal hunt and whales are still being harpooned despite an international ban on commercial whaling.

http://www.care2.com/news/member/694240041/710984

Of course this hideous slaughter of baby seals is just one of many current awesome examples of the murders of our planet, of our inhumanity to nature, man, beasts, and the universe. We are not picking out and harassing Canada in particular. We, and not merely US citizens, but people world-wide who are well aware, are deeply concerned, and often bitter that our (US) political-business people are most responsible for selling off our animals' habitat, which also are our beautiful forests and irreplaceable old-growth timber, fresh water, our oceans and beaches; who promote the denial of global warming while promoting our wars and laugh at torturing untried prisoners! You don’t have to belong to a group like care2 to be humanly concerned with life (or to be a “rocket scientist!”) Or to see how much of US tax money is spent on destruction of land and seas all over the world. Surely much of the enormous amounts of energy spent merely on developing more energy, much of it cruelly and destructively, could be used to develop positive methods for such problems as those caused by a “need” for “seal control.”
Please see The Pledge To Be a Planet Messenger, the most comprehensive and vital petition for our earth I've seen, and I've seen and signed a lot of them.
http://www.tree-nation.com/community/petition.php?id=25

If you haven't yet decided to sign that petition, and as many on the topic as you can, perhaps after seeing the Seal paintings (SEALS: THEY HAVE NO CHILDREN!) you will feel the need to do so. And to tell others. That is my wish. There are more of these PLANET GENOCIDE paintings on the way: already at least 3 on seals and over 40 in all.

http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/188972100moBIYB

My family and I used to enjoy vacationing from Oregon, USA in the various different and beautiful regions of Canada. For several years now I have sent a similar letter to many of the Canadian government officials and also those in any country (including the US!) who seemed appropriate, that we would never return there until this dreadful, cruel, needless, sadistic murderous slaughter ends forever! Neither will we buy any Canadian products nor those of sealer or whalers. And we urge all our friends to follow and many are boycotting and writing letters.

We will not give up! Every year more and more people are sickened with disgust at such an otherwise civilized, friendly, and accomplished country as Canada, and others whose destructive and murderous practices many of our same people are dealing with. We must talk to everyone we meet. Bring it up in any conversation we can. Yes, we can! And we will!

Courage, persistence, peace, etc. Bruce Combs bcombs@ecologyfund.net

It is obviously a biased paper whose readership is mainly the fisherman and their families. I have friends in the area who say more Canadians are against the hunt than the biased media wishes to report plus the propaganda from the industry is more available and aggressively marketed to the press.

Daphne you lovely woman! Great that you get so many people thinking about this! Lets hope that your heroe from Greece will end this in June!
The Canadians are stupid to think that EUROPE is stupid! Well Holland, Germany Belgium Austria and so on have allready acted and the complete EU will follow!
I think that it is a very great industry in Canada with millions of tax payers money they can make some money! It will kill the economy if they dont stop very soon! No more travel to Canada no more products from Canada until the seal hunt is ended for good! The image that Canada has destroyed costs many times more than the benefit from this! Like in Japan! So stop this!

I REALLY DON'T SEE ANY DIFFERENCE IN A BABY SEAL OR A HUMAN BABY. AND I STOPPED CARING IF PEOPLE LIKE ME OR NOT. BECAUSE IF PEOPLE KILL BABIES THE WAY THEY DO, WHY SHOULD I CARE WHAT THEY THINK OF ME. USELESS GREEDY UGLY ASO

We must accept that the Canadian people stand up for the sealers!
This poll does not matter at all! The only thing that matters is that we stop buying seal products! its wonderful that Europe will start and many many countries will follow! Right now i dont think that if Canada will look for new markets they will be able to do business with the people who want to end this whaling! it realy i a shame that Canada is not an exportnation like Germany and Japan! Lets hope that they will end this and will not look for new markets!

Dawn H, You are absolutely right! ... "It is obviously a biased paper whose readership is mainly the fisherman and their families."

This is NOT a "hunt", since they don't have to "hunt", i.e. "look for" their prey. Since the seals are babies, 12 days old and up, and lay helpless on the ice, this is wholesale SLAUGHTER, NOT a "hunt" ... and the sealers are killers, who bludgeon helpless babies and often skin them alive.

NO CIVILIZED HUMAN BEING CAN CONDONE THIS PRACTICE!

Please forget this poll its not important at all what is important is the fact that the rest of the world will ban seal products! Even if this poll would be like in the beginning with more than 90% pro voices it would not make any difference! Who cares about the pro sealers we care about the seals and we are hundreds of millions of people with their voice in the EU and many other regions that are against the seal hunt or should i say slaughter?

too true Hans, this poll seems useless, sometimes i think these things are put up just to allow people to vent! save your breath people, this energy could have been used more constructively, for instance write a letter urging nations to ban seal products, or particular fashion designers/suppliers to stop using fur
