Israel Cuts Gas Supplies To The Gaza Strip In Midst Of Winter

Every year, the Israeli occupation cuts cooking gas supplies for Gaza residents during the most extreme cold waves, which tend to begin at the end of December. Meanwhile, they exploit gas off-shore in Palestinian waters ...

The Israeli government has been doing this year after year, and year after year there is an outcry, especially now large parts of Gaza was laid in ruins and rebuilding is delayed. And still they cut of the gas supply as soon as temperatures drop, often under the pretense of unpaid bills. Year after year the Israeli government tries to get away with it and thinks the rest of the world doesn't remember that they've been doing this on a yearly basis. When is this ritual dance finally going to stop? When will other countries finally say: enough!

Disgraceful and disgusting, and non-humanitarian I would think.

Good questtion Lona! No time soon i guess, not as long as there is always another issue the world can conveniently focus on. And Isrraeli regme can happily hide behind!
Currently that's Madaya (Syria) because Western media is quick to support the narrative where they can be sure of UN's attention, -as opposed to when it comes to Gazans. When in truth there is zero difference, both amount to crimes against humanity!

The more daily news concentrate on Syria and other issues, the better for Nutyahoo! A deliberate scheme.

Under French law, landlords cannot evict tenants - even for long unpaid rent - during the winter months, & utilities cannot be cut off. Such actions were considered inhuman and cruel, which led to the law.

But of course, Israel doesn't care about inhuman actions towards the inferior creatures in Gaza (or in the OPT in general). Who will dare judge them in any effective way? And verbal criticism - "Bah! Anti-Semitic"

I wonder to what extent the average Israeli is even aware of this? Hardly at all, I suspect - because I'm sure than there is quite a sizeable section of the population that are not peace activists but who would feel very ill at ease if they actually registered clearly what is being done here ... and what it means under winter conditions. But many of those will avoid thinking about it unless it is pushed in front of their consciousness ... easier to keep a wall of unawareness around them. (As was the case in Germany while Jews, Gypsies, disabled were being eliminated; as has been in the Catholic Church when priests have abused choirboys and nuns abused the problem young women & girls sent to be under their care .... Many examples exist where subconscious blocks "protect" people from being aware of the unthinkable. But is that a justification??)

And yes, Angie - media provide distractions when the leaders don't want people to be too aware of certain realities .... Why, our news has been full of "SNOW" - WOW! NEWS!! Hey - it is winter, snow usually falls in winter ... what other things are we supposed NOT to be thinking about?

Angelika R (143)
Tuesday January 19, 2016, 9:00 am
Under the UN's nose is where it should be pushed! But that, of course, nobody will dare. There isn's any country currently having the guts to risk it with the US, challeging them for FIRST and ONLY time ever to NOT shelter Israel with their veto power. Sadly, as perhaps now would be the only time the Obama admin might be ready for that, call it blowing a chance if you will.
And that, too has to do with that unholy "coalition of the willing" fighting in Syria, alledgedly the IS/Da'esh.
France was rather forthcoming earlier with regard to resolutions etc in favor of Palestinians, not anymore.

The French law is very common sensical and compassionate.

In the UK, if you have a High Court Writ, you can force someone out of a property at any time of the day or night, any time of year.

When Hamas, a terrorist organisation, stops shooting rockets onto Israeli civilians they will get their gas... Why should Israel cuddle its enemies who want to destroy Israel and jews... Let them all move for a permanent Haj to Saudi Arabia and let their Muslim friends help; them out...they have enough money and gas and oil.

Roslyn M (26)
Tuesday January 19, 2016, 1:40 pm
Seems unfair on civilians, not as bad as being bombed, though.

Evelyn B (63)
Tuesday January 19, 2016, 1:53 pm
Cold can kill just as dead, though, Roslyn ....

Vlasta's comment sounds close to a call for ethnic cleansing. Do you think that there are more rockets in the coldest months ? Sounds more like the usual deviation of attention ... Try comparing numbers of rockets actually found to have been fired with the numbers of snipers shots down from the wall, low overflights of Israeli planes &, more often, very low drone flights over Gaza ..... But of course, those kind of incitative actions are just "self defence", while retaliation of any kind by Palestinians is not seen as self-defence or as a product of the inhuman treatment meted out by the State of Israel ... just one form of which (among many) is cutting off their gas supply during the coldest spells ....

Until people are able to recognise that many Israeli actions are not justifiable under the label "self defence", the road to peace is often barricaded. It wouldn't help to recognise that Palestinian actions (rockets, knifings, etc) are self defence from THEIR side either. Because initiating violence (physical or psychological) as self defence is counter-productive ... on both sides.

Humanity can meet humanity. Inhuman acts trigger more suffering - and hence, more violence

Rotten, rotten Israeli government. Israel can get away with this because of its status as a sacred cow. Time to remind everybody of Abbie Hoffman's famous observation that sacred cows make the tastiest hamburger.

Dear Evelyn – nothing new there as so many said already. It’s shameful is how silent the political world community is – nothing new either!

I know you don’t mind me posting this petition here which runs in the same vein – they now also go openly after Jewish Israeli peace activists and gag the press.

Sorry I can’t make a separate posting as C2 has hiccups which I can’t afford (time and nerve wise) to entertain. So if anyone wants to make a separate posting …

You all stay safe!

“The Israeli Government has detained Jewish-Israeli activist Ezra Nawi for no apparent reason, and enforced a gag-order to prevent the press from speaking out. Will you email the Israeli Embassy and demand that Ezra be released?”

Effectively "We have the right (read, power) to take the gas from the offshore fields that are geographically Gazan/ Palestinian - why the hell should we provide any of it to Gaza?" ???

What a clearly peace-loving attitude!! What a humanitarian stance to take! NO I don't believe that this is Jewish ethics at work - but only political Zionism. Counting on continued impunity ...

I'll never believe that an ethical society will intentionally act to make survival as difficult as possible for any section of the civilian population, the non-combatant ordinary citizen

Angelika R (143)
Wednesday January 20, 2016, 7:22 am
But Evelyn, that intentional act of any ethical society begins at the polls! By that, it certainly has been looking like political zionism has done a good job in defeating Jewish ethics step by step. Not too much of a surprise if one has such a propaganda minisrty at work, literally worldwide.

For it's crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing of Palestine, Israel must be held to account, internationally.

Bibi is only following Putin's example who did not hesitate to cut gaz supplies to Ukraine and Western Europe when he wanted to put some pression on the EU governments...
Did not see anyone scream about it at the time...
When it comes to Israel it seems obvious antisemites do not hesitate to apply double standards...

Evelyn B (63)

The real question is - who is using double standards - and deviation tactics?

Ros -******************************************************
Darren - I can't stand Putin - but I do suspect that we face many filters and manipulations of info that reaches us about him & his government. And I have serious reservations about the ethics of high level decision-makers in our world today .... Can people reach the top, and stay there, while fully abiding by ethical principles? Or do ethics have to become "flexible"? Sooner or later ....

Angelika R (143)
Wednesday January 20, 2016, 5:06 pm
I too would have to disagree witth Roger for this! It was Ukraine which has STOLEN gas for their own use, that was meant for transfer and this not just once but repeatedly! I think many are just mis-or uninformed of what's really been going on and still is.
This injust and unjustified Putin bashing blame game, stirred by the US for their geopolitical aims and cover up of their own failures needs to STOP, I am sick and tired of it and all the surrounding propaganda lies!

"Gaza, Occupied Territories – The suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has doubled, due to Israeli cuts on cooking gas supplies during this current wave of extreme cold.

“It is week four since the Israeli authorities severely decreased cooking gas supplies for the Gaza Strip,” said Mohamed al-Abadaleh, member of the Union of Owners of Fuel and Gas Companies.

He also said that the amount allowed into Gaza is only 15 per cent of the daily need during normal times; however, the current consumption is far more than the 300 tons, due to the cold weather of winter.

Gaza stations across the Gaza Strip are full of empty gas containers, as they are unable to fulfill the needs of the consumers.

People have started using coal and wood fire for cooking and other tasks, in order to keep life going on.

Days of Palestine notes that Israeli authorities have been stealing Palestinian gas off the Mediterranean coast, using it and selling it to the world.

In addition, it imposes restrictions on Palestinians in Gaza, with regard to obtaining gas from the huge reserves.

Every year, the Israeli occupation cuts cooking gas supplies for Gaza residents during the most extreme cold waves, which tend to begin at the end of December."

TY Evelyn this is so sadly noted!
