Britain's allies are killing children in Yemen. This must stop. Both sides in this conflict have a lot to answer for. But our government knows one of its allies has blood on its hands - and yet it's still selling bombs to Saudi Arabia

Zuhair*, 13, was badly burned in an airstrike on a crowded funeral in Yemen.

Zuhair, 13, was at a funeral in Sana’a last October when a bomb hit. 140 people died – and Zuhair’s life was torn apart.

“I saw people scattered on the floor” he says. “I saw them lying on the floor dead, in halves, burned up.”

Today, his body is still badly burnt from the attack, and he’s struggling to come to terms with the terror he saw.

“He screams while he’s sleeping,” his mum reveals. “His eyes are closed, but he screams so much. He says things that would scare you.”

Both sides in this conflict have a lot to answer for. But our government knows one of its allies has blood on its hands – and yet it’s still selling bombs to Saudi Arabia. Sign this petition

It’s time they got the message: enough is enough.

===============================================================

Britain’s allies are killing children in Yemen. This must stop.

Schools and hospitals have been targeted in attacks that may have broken international law. Almost 3,000 children have been killed or injured.

Both sides in this conflict have a lot to answer for. But our government knows one of its allies has blood on its hands – and yet it’s still selling bombs to Saudi Arabia.

Tell the government to protect children and stop the sale of British weapons to Saudi Arabia.

It must also support investigations into attacks on children, push for a ceasefire and ensure vital aid can reach Yemeni families.

Sign the petition to foreign secretary Boris Johnson now.

Full petition text

Dear Foreign Secretary,

Today more than 18 million people, including over 10 million children, are in need of urgent humanitarian aid. Schools, hospitals and other vital civilian infrastructure continue to be damaged and destroyed in attacks. The UN estimates that almost 3,000 children have been killed or injured since March 2015.

The UK’s involvement in supporting the humanitarian response, diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and its strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia means it can play an influential role in ensuring children and their families have access to assistance and are protected from the armed conflict in Yemen. As the conflict approaches its second year, I am calling on you to please:

Ensure children and their families have access to humanitarian aid and other basic supplies by pressing all parties to guarantee rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access to those in need and lifting any restrictions on imports of commercial supplies.

Ensure children and their families are protected from the armed violence by urging parties to respect international law, immediately stop the use of explosive weapons with wide-area effects in populated areas, and to refrain from selling arms to any party in the conflict if there is a risk they may violate international law.

Hold perpetrators of violations of international law to account, by supporting independent, international investigations of alleged violations by all sides

Press all parties to the conflict to agree an immediate ceasefire and continue supporting efforts to seek a political solution to the conflict.

You're right, Dandelion -
And they don't get the attention that those in Syria get, either.
No little girls' tweets getting relayed by interested parties; no "White Helmets" capturing public admiration ...
Not that there aren't local heroes - I'm sure that there are - but no special attention bringing them into the limelight.

Just occasional stories filtering out ... and inadequately shared

Blaming the bomb makers is the same as blaming the gun makers. Bombs and guns do not kill people. People kill people.
