Exxon argues that the Paris Accord is "an effective framework for addressing the risks of climate change". This, at the time DT is issuing orders to undo several of Obama's key climate policies!

It sounds more like PR effort than a sincere wish!

If it's a PR effort, Sam - that says a lot about PUBLIC relations/ opinion - when the WH is giving carte blanche!!

I agree - but would go further: they're realising that they've a lot to lose if they DON'T accept the framework!!

WHAT? I'm sure that Exxon has an ulterior motive - but at least they are doing the right thing and acknowledging that climate change/global warming is for real.

Noted. Yesterday the CEO of General Electric wrote an open letter to the power companies urging them to continue to work towards developing clean and renewable energy and had even called Donald Trump mentally impaired.

This is a great thing for a company that stands to gain from Trumps Environmental disaster outlook on the environment to call for staying in an agreement that will cost their industry more money and business ventures and from whom a former executive is now secretary of state is a huge win. A corporation with a conscience ?.

I agree with you Evelyn. They have a lot to lose. Is it possible the coverup was unknown to the people that be in Exxon now?

Or there may be division within Exxon - traditionalists and "forward thinkers" who see Exxon has having a future only if they invest in serving alternative energy development, thus keeping a foot in the leadership of the energy market ? Because they realise that, between public opinion and real economic challenges, they need to be seen as realistic & sensitive to the environment (even if in reality this is purely for economic reasons!!!)

wonder what's in it for Exxon. They don't do anything unless they benefit from it
