Starbucks previously made a pledge - a decade ago - to introduce 100% recyclable coffee cups. We're still waiting!!! The world's oceans are full of plastic & 4 billion plastic-lined Starbucks cups end up in the garbage every year.

Tell Starbucks you want a 100% recyclable cup now

UPDATE 21 March 2018: Starbucks just announced it will commit $10 million in a partnership to bring a fully recyclable and compostable cup to market in three years. This is great news -- but it's not the first time that Starbucks has promised to solve its 4-billion-disposable-cups-per-year problem. So the company must provide more details, to demonstrate that this time will be different.

The world's oceans are full of plastic and 4 billion plastic-lined Starbucks cups end up in the garbage every year.

Starbucks is part of the problem: tell the coffee giant to switch to 100% recyclable cups!

By 2050, the world’s oceans are projected to have more plastic in them than fish -- and still Starbucks continues to serve billions of plastic-lined single-use coffee cups. These are nearly impossible to recycle because of their plastic lining.

The sheer amount of plastic trash created by Starbucks is out of control, and is ending up in waterways and other fragile ecosystems.

In 2008, Starbucks boldly told the world it would serve a 100% recyclable paper cup and increase reusable cup usage to 25% by 2015. To date, it hasn’t kept either of these promises.

It’s time for Starbucks to live up to its promises to give us a 100% recyclable cup, not be part of the global plastic problem.

This campaign is being run in partnership with the Break Free From Plastics Coalition, Stand.earth, Greenpeace USA, Clean Water Action, UpStream, Story of Stuff, 5 Gyres, Texas Campaign for the Environment, PPC, Care2, and Coworker.org

I vote we bring our own cups and containers when we go foraging. It's easy to keep in the car. They may look at you strangely the first time you do it but they will do it. We need to be thoughtful and prepared to save our planet for our children and everyday is a new chance. When ever you bring your recyclable cup to be filled make sure you show the other customers what you have done and why. Say it out loud, you will never see them again, the blush in your cheeks fades quickly and you taught someone who will tell someone else about what this really cool person did at Starbucks and they will repeat, repeat, repeat. This is my only planet in this life.

I signed it Evelyn, but my cup and container are clean and in my car, just in case.

Like Animae, personally I avoid Starbucks. I don't like their politics ... e.g. their attempt (in support of Montsanto) to force Vermont to back down on the question of GMO labelling ...
But that doesn't change our support of the call to stop using non-recyclable cups!

Trish - I don't know about in the US, but in the UK, more & more people bring their own cups for filling! And coffee shops like Costa's sell thermos cups with hermetically sealing caps. A great idea, & I take advantage of it. The idea hasn't caught on so much in France ... but plastic goblets aren't so common either, except in stations & airports (and automatic machines). The difficulty with the standard coffee cups is that they don't fit well under the coffee 'spouts' of expresso machines ... but usually, the cups are normal ones, anyway!

I work at a University, every food establishment has to have all their plates, cups, eating utensils, etc. recyclable. Starbucks has the University coffee contract, which means all their stuff is recyclable on campus. If they can do it for campus, they can do it everywhere (IMNSHO).
